Cabin #22 was just as expected. We did have very poor water flow in kitchen sink but the bathroom pressure and flow were great.

1st trip to the island. Everything was as expected. Always make sure you are ready for insects both mosquitoes and biting flies. The flies can bite through light weight clothing material. Our trip was for surf fishing and we did great. I will definitely be returning.

Cabin 22 and the whole Great Island Cabin Camps were great. Cabin 22 is in a great location in the dunes with a short walk down a sandy path to the beach. There is a small dune in front of the screen porch that provides a bit of privacy from the road that people take to get to the beach. The proximity to of Cabin 22 to Cabin 21 is pretty close but we were never bothered by it. The shower in cabin 22, while small, had great water pressure and plenty of hot water. It was so nice to have a beach camping experience with a full bath and kitchen! The kitchen stove had 3 burners that worked and we’re not sure about the oven. All the windows had screens and bugs weren’t bad at all. The cabin has a generator shed with the proper cords and the way it was situated, it really cut down on the noise to the cabin. The beds were quite comfy. We did bring an extra layer of bed pad but probably could’ve gone without it. The cabin came with a 6’ table and a 4’ table (on the porch) and 4 basic folding chairs. We brought another 4’ table and a small table to use between the bunks as a nightstand. We tried to not run the generator too much so we brought several rechargeable lantern/lights and a Jackery for charging. All in all, it was a great 4 nights and we wanted to stay longer!

Cabin 22 is getting better. Be sure to bring something to cover the windows over the stove so youre not staring in to cabin 21. Nice to have the new locks on doors.

We come here to fish twice per year and pay high prices to use the cabins as our base station. Our biggest concern is that we cant rely on the hot water control system to work consistently per rental cabin. We love the island and appreciate the opportunity. However, we pay hard earned income and expect the water and stove to work as it is designed.

2 nights in Cabin 22 - 2 people/2 dogs /1 vehicle. Check in was quick and easy and ice is available. The screened porch was perfect for the dog's crate and to store the beach chairs, coolers, etc. There is a large folding table and a small folding table and 3(?) chairs with plenty of room to set up inside or out on the porch. Hooks outside for beach towels. Our first time camping with a small solar generator and we brought a lamp from home :) but didn't realize generator could be plugged in for overhead lighting. Plenty of hot water and the kitchen sink, shower and propane stove more than adequate for us. I don't think the oven worked but we didn't need it. This cabin is right next to Cabin 21 which blocked airflow a bit so bring a portable fan if you can. Met nice people next door. Tip *there is an outdoor spigot! Husband thought to pack a lightweight hose and it was great to rinse the beach chairs and dogs before heading home and rinse the salt off the car (hubby is picky lol) This cabin has short walk right out to the beach where we had campfires at sunset and then saw so many stars! Mattresses were fine for sleeping. Tried our hand at fishing along sound and surf, caught small fish and had a great time. Had no issues driving on the beach or back road in our SUV. Used the bath house last day and it was very clean. Upon checkout, I mentioned the cabin door lock was very difficult to open (key stuck) and we saw carpenter ant damage inside the front door each morning but the two ladies at the front office didn't seem to care. Bring bug spray and sunscreen and a small rug/doormat to help keep some sand out of the cabin! Davis Ferry was quick and easy and this cabin was affordable and was perfect for our quick getaway!

Cabin 22 was a great spot when the wind was blowing 30 from the east. Cabin 21 blocks the wind. Make sure you have the key with you when you walk outside, the cabin ghost will lock you out in a minute.

It is always a great experience visiting the Cape Lookout National Seashore Cabins. Great and wonderful forestry service personnel there. They always are very attentive to answer or help with anything you might ask or need. We went for the week in March, we usually go in August so we tried something different and as always such a wonderful trip that was much needed. Cabins always clean and nice, great spot. Will never go anywhere else. Thank You

The cabins are rustic, but much better than a tent. It is hot in August. The cabin can become sweltering if there is no breeze. If you do not have a generator, then try for battery operated fans.
