Always great to be back at the cabins. Having hot showers is always a good felling after a day fishing.

Cabin 8 was great, this was my first visit to the Island and it was amazing. Definitely will be back for a longer stay to allow more time to fish and enjoy the island more. Perfect weather in March!

Always a great trip to the Great Island. Fishing we hit and miss and the weather a little rough but overall a good time.

I appreciate the efforts NPS puts into CALO. The thing I really miss out there is when they had the old light in the lighthouse. It would really light up your tent at night.

Great cabin! As long as you understand that it is rustic this place was perfect. Large driveway in the back and privacy because (unfortunately) cabins 9+10 were demolished in a storm.Located away from vehicle entry points.Screen porch door opens up toward the ocean which made stepping out feel more secluded.Great stay!(Weve stayed in five different cabins and this was a favorite)

Find a hole to fish when tide is low. Visit the lighthouse. Get up early to see the sunrise. My wife and I are looking forward to going back.

Cabin was ready on time and everything functioned as advertised. The water heater was much imroved over past years so it was nice to have a decent shower after a day on the beach.

Our cabin was ready when we arrived at the island. It was clean and everything operated as expected. We have tent camped on the island before, but after getting swamped by high tides following an unexpected storm we felt more comfortable in the cabin. One thing that would have improved our visit would have been if we had discovered the outdoor spigot sooner so we could have avoided tracking as much sand onto the porch. Our next trip will include a garden hose to make better use of that feature. We purchased ice and fuel when on the island when needed. We were disappointed that the lighthouse wasn't open, but the lighthouse keepers house was informative and interesting.

Cabin was in good shape with noticeable improvements, such as new screen door and latches. It was great as the oven and stove top had been replaced recently. Oven didn't work great but did work if lit by hand.

Major Issues
@KatieS8940479 · Camped on Oct 18, 2022 at Campsite #8
The island is beautiful. The cabins need help. Plywood for the bathroom floor is an odd choice because it smells of absorbed urine. Sticky film along surfaces. The bunk bed ladders have foam padding that is partly duct taped on but mostly falling apart- odd because this could be fixed quickly with minimal effort. The exterior smelled strongly of propane, and staff came immediately and replaced the tank which resolved the issue. We rented the cabin as a back up in case the weather turned on us or in case of a heavy mosquito night, while beach camping, and we much preferred sleeping in our pop up camper. But it's 4 solid walls out of the wind, with running water, a toilet, and a propane stove, with a nice screened in porch and folding chairs.

We really enjoyed the quiet of the uncrowded beaches. Already planning to go back next summer. Adding a short hose to our cabin packing list since there is a spigot outside the cabin that we didnt know about.

We love visiting Cape Lookout. Each time we come we plan and pack better and we will do even better the next visit. The only issue we had on this past visit that I feel you should know about was the roach issue. We have never had this issue before. I understand that we are on sand, near water and in the South etc but just wanted to share that they were everywhere. In the evenings they would actually run across bedding and drop from the ceilings on us while we were sleeping. Weve visited several times and have never experienced this before. Like I said we just love it there and this doesnt stop us from coming back but thought we should let you know. Thank you.

The cabins are holding up well! Use caution if walking between #8 and #11 where 9&10 used to be as there is still lots of glass shards exposed.
