Much better condition of the cabin than last year, not nearly as many roaches this year, hottest water weve had in 30 years

Peaceful and pleasant place to stay at! Water in cabin was clean and drinkable, with consistent pressure and heat the entire time. Overhead lights in the cabin are low wattage LEDs, and can be run with only a small battery pack, if you don't want to bring a bulky generator. Beach is only a minute's walk from this cabin, down a sand road, with plenty of wind and waves, birds and fish, and good shelling as well. Do heed the advice to bring bug repellant and long sleeve shirts, the dune flies can be a bit dense until you get out to the ocean side of things. Overall, its a fun adventure to a barrier island, well worth the opportunity to go.

Have been coming to the island for 8 years now and this is the worst shape I have seen the cabins in. Cockroaches were everywhere, and the stove was barely working to the point of having to bring in our own stove.

Love Cape Lookout! The few things that should be addressed are speeding and trash. We picked up trash as we normally do but cannot do anything about the speeding on the beach. Outside of that we had a great time, and will continue to do our annual trip to Cape Lookout! Thank you.

Cabin was clean and very assessable to the ocean. Hot showers and stove made the cabin very homey.

Fishing was outstanding. Not having access to the North Point was disappointing.

Everything was as advertised. Hot water was tricky, however we had a blast. Definitely bring deet, the green head horse flies are the spawn of Satan. Amazing location, will definitely continue our guy's trip here.

Great Island Cabins were great! However, the website for recreation.gov leaves a lot of room for improvement. The creator of that website should try and make reservations at the cabins and should try to purchase the new necessary $25.00 off road vehicle pass.

Do not go right after a storm. They will open up before roads or beachs are really ready. The cabins were in as good of condition as they ever are, or the ones that were open.. Roads were soft and not run in. Beach even had died horses laying on it. Light house and sound side were all in good shape.Rangers this time were of no help for even advice. Need anything seek out the volunteers. But their limited by the ranges. So know the rules before you go.Still a one of a kind primitive experience. Just know what your in for.

Remote beach experience unlike any other. Careful planning is a must, with fuel and ice the only provision available on the island. ATVs and generators are not required but make experiencing and exploring the island more comfortable.
