The island was amazing! The ferry ride was quick and easy, with smooth loading and unloading. We brought our four-wheelers and had a blast riding them on the beach and using them to get around the island. The cabins were just as expected for a rustic stay. Since this was our first visit, we picked up a few lessons for next timelike bringing a tablecloth, as the tables werent the cleanest. We also brought a window AC unit, which was a lifesaver in the July heat. One recommendation would be to bring something extra to cover the mattresses, as they werent the cleanest eitherjust an extra layer between us and the sheets would have been nice. All in all, we loved it and are already planning to come back next year. It was a great trip!

Amazing location- were still reeling by the beauty of the area! The volunteers and local ranger were incredibly helpful and welcoming. The cabin was as advertised- we didnt realize there would be generator hookups (wouldnt have affected anything but maybe on a longer visit wed look at one!)Cannot recommend this gem enough. Already planning another trip back!!!!

The rustic cabins are perfect for the stay at Cape Lookout. Cabin 11 was in good shape with all appliances working. We brought a generator, the connection to the house was easy. The ranger and volunteers made for a smooth check in process. We will be back next year!

Always a good time going over to the Great Islands at Core banks. Stayed in cabin 11 and everything worked great. The Park Services staff was very friendly and accommodating. Can’t wait to get back out there fishing again.

Better than expected. I was expecting a dirty little rustic cabin, and was fine with that. It turned out to be a clean, much larger cabin than expected. Will book one again.

Pretty good weather and a very positive experience for some new folks with us. The fishing is still off but we did catch a few that made it a good trip. Thanks.

Cabin 11 as expected. The new gas range was a great addition. Our neighbors ran their Honda generator 24/7. Love those Hondas. Last year using cabin 11, the Briggs and Straton could be heard at the ranger station, also running 24/7. The crew at check-in and check-out were professional and friendly. A good trip. The registration process back in the winter really sux.

Outstanding location--unsurpassed. Kind fishermen and cabin neighbors. Peaceful with great shelling, secondary to a Nor'easter that passed through before we arrived.

Rustic very basic cabins with bunk beds. Rangers and volunteers were all very pleasant and informative on regulations and beach conditions.

This trip to South Core Banks represents more than 30 years of fall trips for me. Many great memories. Cabins continue to be very satisfactory, major upgrade from the olden days. Our cabin this year was # 11. It was mid September with minimal SW breeze. So it was hot sleeping the first night (9-14.) Weather not the problem of RECREATION.gov. A party from Virginia moved into cabin #12 on 9-15 and set up a 5 KW generator obviously powering an AC unit which was protruding from a NE window. They ran the noisy Industrial size generator 24/7 even when the wind shifted to NE 12-15 kts. This was the first time in all the above mentioned years I have experienced an intrusion into the expected peaceful Great Island trijp.

Everything worked, hot water heater, propane stove, etc. Can't beat the views and proximity to the beach. Next time might bring a generator for some bigger fans that what we had!

Trip was awesome and visit was as expected at the cabin. This was our first time to the Great Island Cabin and our expectations of our cabin was based off what we had already read online. These cabins are basic and rustic to say the least but the location makes up for it. Considering the alternative accommodations (camping) on the island, the cabins are a 3 star hotel.

The stars look like they are going to fall down on your face. It is so quiet all you can hear is the waves crashing on the beach. Wildflowers and seashells everywhere. The ever-changing weather lets you know who is really in control. The freedom of nothingness. Hope you never come I want the island to myself unless you are a person that is at one with nature.
