Great Island Cabins are always a good experience and have been part of making memories for my family for years! The staff is always helpful, friendly, and accommodating. The cabins are just what you need to relax after a day on the beach! Some on the table and chairs could use updating, but you can make do. The fish cleaning station offers plenty of room for everyone and the bath houses are always clean. We look forward to our annual trip each year!

My family and I have been visiting Cape Lookout (Great Island Cabins) for years. It's a favorite of ours. This last trip was somewhat of a disappointment, not because of the beauty of the island, but the condition of the cabins. I was hopeful the cabins would be at least slightly upgraded. The mattresses were in poor condition, rotting floors, invasion of ants, screens/windows in poor condition, etc. Especially, being the rates have gone up to rent the cabins. My reasoning for taking the time to write this review is because we plan to always revisit the island and are hopeful this will help make a difference.

Me and my kids stayed in this one for two nights. The toilet will clog with just water flushing if you arent careful. At least it would for us. The water heater should be called a water warmer. It doesnt really get too hot, maybe a tad above lukewarm. Otherwise, the cabin did its job. The beds are comfortable enough and much better than the ground. The cabin kept out the wind and let us spread out enough for three adults. The island is the real attraction though so the cabin was a bit player in this fishing trip.

Has a great fish cleaning station, they also sell ice, and air hose to use before getting on the ferry.

Had an outstanding trip to Cape Lookout again. Check in was easy, cabin was in great shape, and rangers were helpful with everything we needed.

When they say the beach pinches off up by 24 at high tide, they kind of mean it :)

The beauty of the Island out weight the shortcomings of the facility. The staff were friendly and accomodating. We were there during the turtle hatching season and were able to rescue a baby turtle! Unforgettable experience.

Cabins are worth every penny as weather on the island can go from beautiful to brutal very quickly.

This was a fun little adventure. We stayed at Cabin 21. The bunk beds are actually very comfortable. Hot water was mostly reliable in the shower (it kind of comes and goes) but didn't run out. We opted for the no electricity route but instead used candle lanterns at night which is always nice. There were other cabins with generators running 24/7 which slightly detracted from the peace and quiet but you just have to tolerate that. I was surprised to find toilet paper and trash bags included. Be sure to bring your own pillow. There is also ice available at the office which we didn't know. Driving down to the point is a must. We'll do this again!

This was the first time I have rented the cabins and actually have scheduled renting two ore times this year. From the moment we got off the ferry, The park ranger, (with his BLUE LIGHTS BLAZING) was harassing anyone he could. he was even blocking the trails with his blazer harassing people as they were coming up to their cottage.Often he was driving at very high rat of speed down the beach causing safety concerns to those fishing and when we asked others staying on the beach, this same officer was checking their fishing licenses "EVETRY DAY". when he knew they were legal. When we pulled up to our cabin, there was a built (dug out) fire pit far away from the cabin, dunes and near the beach. So we assumed it was our designate place for a modest fire. so we did. That night a park volunteer came by and inspected out fire. he said it was in a good location and wished us good night. GREAT !!Well no, next morning, no fire burning, Barney Fife came up to our cabin, (BLUE LIGHTS BKAZING) telling me we had an illegal fire. I explained what the volunteer told us and he said the volunteer expressed that he told us to move it. (THIS IS A LIE).So this way over zealous poor example of an officer was all to egger to write me a $130.00 dollar ticket. (FINE !) I wished him well, be safe now leave us alone.Later that day, 15 miles down the beach, Barney Fife , (BLUE LIGHTS BLAZING) again checking the same guys licenses while fishing. My son was driving his truck (slowly) I in my jeep. My son took a wide turn on beach to come around "door to door" to talk to me and OMG ,,, Barney fife came racing up, (BLUE LIGHTS BLAZING) accusing my son of doing doughnuts on the beach. In all sincerity, This guy has issues and SHOULD NOT have access to the public. He's obviously a power driven individual with an authority complex. this is a public beach and I saw no one BUT HIM being dangerous and equally concerning is no one could enjoy nature, the beach, God's creation.

We stayed at Cabin #21 and unfortunately it's right next to the road AND right next to another cabin. There are plenty of other choice cabins that I would have preferred to have stayed in. However, the park/camp volunteers were quite helpful and nice. Beautiful scenery!

Fine for 3 guys fishing, but I wouldn't call it a family vacation spot. The wife and kids may be accustomed to something less rustic. Shower, stove and sink all worked fine. A fish cleaning station would've been nice, but the view of the stars can't be beat.

Perfect base camp to explore the island and fish. Kids had a blast at the northern point playing in the shallows and at the cape in the tide pools. Twin size bunk beds. We opened the windows and let the ocean breeze keep us comfortable. Was able to run the couple light bulbs with a Tacoma bed outlet, didnt need a genny. Will be back again.

My best friend an I take an annual girls vacation to Great Island Camps. We always have a fantastic time and come home with so many special memories. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and so are the other campers. We choose to "rough it" in a cabin with no electricity to add to the experience, but we have rented a generator for a few lights or fans a couple of times. It's not the prettiest place, but it is clean and well maintained. We will continue to have our annual adventure here for many years to come!

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!!!!!!!!!!! OMG I cannot wait to go back. The cheaper cabins are behind sand dunes and do not get good wind flow. So, if it's in the summer, spend the extra couple bucks for a nicer cabin. 0 wind in the cabin means you'll be sweating til the heat knocks off and that's not til 2 am.
