As always, a great stay! This time was quite unique as it was snowing when we pulled in, yes, snowing at the beach! Who knew? Awesome visit!

Away from the crowds! Great beach, nice sites. The new restaurant Sea Chef at the marina was excellent- some of 5ge best shrimp I have ever eaten. Unfortunately the folks across from us ran their generator from 8am until 10 pm. Fewer hrs would be great as well as mor3 sites w electric.

We arrived early from checking out at Frisco , about 12:45 pm. We had concerns about the size of the available site, b16, and sure enough there is absolutely no way that one could back a ram 350 crew cab truck with a 28 foot trailer in and keep all wheels on the asphalt. In the effort I heard screaming and yelling and an implication that I was drunk. I exited the vehicle to face a deranged, demented heated ranger channeling a marine drill sergeant about 10 inches from my face. I said that I was not drunk, and may have pushed him back. If I did it was in self defense and not a push, more of a touch. In any event more yelling that I touched him, that is exact , I touched him and was I drunk and he could throw me out of the park. The hosts were there and said that it best that we leave until after three because it would be trouble with this ranger otherwise. This, plus we could not fit in the campsite, caused us to scrub our plans and vacation and return home. I am 87, been camping my entire life, am a veteran, and never encountered such a disrespectful, unprofessional, insensitive, insulting and condescending horror show anywhere, at any time, except at the movies, a marine drill sergeant. Given that a large percentage of the sites are of a size and angle such that it is impossible to back in and keep all wheels on the pavement and that there is at least one ranger that is not there to help, and being 87, we are done. All other experience with the rangers and hosts have been good to excellent, including the stay at Frisco, the park that we left that very morning.

We always spend our first night on OBX at this campground before moving into our rental house. Love going to sleep to ocean breezes and ocean waves.

Pros: very cool location- close to the inlet and Bodie Island lighthouse. The dunes behind the campground are massive and have trails- it's fun walking around in them. Easy access to the beach and a nice walk to the inlet. Bathrooms are clean and there are showers.Cons: campground is like a parking lot- sites are very close together. Generators and road noise.

No shade but there is always a breeze that makes camping very comfortable. nice facilities. Not terribly easy to access beach but why would you want to when they let people drive and park all over it. Good luck having a peaceful walk or resting on the beach when there are endless vehicles tearing up the beach and throwing sand. Shame on you NC for allowing vehicle to drive and park on your beaches.

We stayed in site B16, with no hookups. We have a 25-foot travel trailer and had to park our truck sideways in order to stay off the grass. It was fine for us though. We were right on the dune side by the beach. You still have to climb up over the dunes to see the beach. The bathrooms could use a little updating. The showers are in a stand-alone building with swinging barn style doors on them. There are 3 total. They are clean and have hot water, but you have to pull on a chain the whole time to keep the water running. It was a quiet park, and the staff were very friendly. There are a few sites with electric and water, but they are hard to get. The sites had plenty enough space between them. We have solar and there is no shade, so we did fine. I would definitely stay here again.

Location is fantastic but campground is extremely tight and sites are close together. Facilities were kept in good condition. Beach access through dunes.

The campground consists of paved parking pads. No electric, sewer, water hookups. Generator noise can be an issue especially during summer months. Beach is 5 minute walk over dunes. Electric hookup would be a major improvement for longer term stays

Perfect time of year to visit. Only a handful of the 100+ sites were occupied. Quiet and peaceful visit and no crowds. Very clean. Only downside is no showers during the winter season.

The campground was convenient to the locations we wanted to visit in the area. The facilities were clean and well cared for, the campground host was very friendly and helpful. Other campers were quiet and respectful of the shared space. We would visit again.

What a wonderful camping experience right on the dunes of the OBX! Facilities are clean and plentiful. Bathrooms and showers dispersed so most sites are within walking distance. Listen to the waves crashing on the shore. Close to lighthouse and town of Nags Head.

It was still a little flooded but a nice place for what the cost for a campsite was. Unfortunately we came down with a chest and sinus infection and couldnt enjoy it. No fault of the campground.

The campground was nice, with clean bathhouses. Good central location to explore the Outer Banks...went as far North as Currituck Lighthouse, as far South as Frisco & Hatteras (but didn't make the ferry trip over to Ocracoke this time!) Also visited Fort Raleigh on Roanoke Island, and the Wright Brothers National Memorial, along with several other stops...Fall is a great time of year to visit the Outer Banks!

Be aware of noisy generators! We have a small camper with no domestic electrical appliances and basically cook and live outdoors. Unfortunately on our first day we experienced intolerable noise all afternoon until 10:30 PM and starting up at 9:00 am the following day from new neighbor's 3,500 watt external generator. It revved up whenever appliances were being used. It is their prerogative under the campground rules, so there was nothing we could do about it. I guess it is a lottery. So we checked out, losing some of our prepaid camping fees , and moved elsewhere. Volunteer staff very helpful and friendly, location wonderful, such a pity it attracts some uncaring and unsociable campers with unsuitable rigs. If you live mainly indoors in a hermetically sealed RV, I guess it might not bother you, but if you like fresh air (it is a National Seashore afterall) you might find it bothersome or even extremely intrusive. A generator free loop for small campers/RVs would help, as would more stringent limitations on generators that are enforced. We won't stay there again.
