The beach over the dunes from our tent was beautiful and a short walk and not crowded especially in the early morning before people in their trucks showed up (you can drive on the beach there). The tent sites didnt have defined tent pads. There were lots of sand spurs. Some ticks. It rained a lot and there was standing water where the car was parked. The showers were one temperature which was hot but that was probably because we had high temperatures. I suspect in cool weather the showers would be cold. If the wind was blowing from the east you didnt notice road noise but if wind from the west you did notice road noise. The bathrooms and water access was fine and clean enough for a sandy environment. Id camp there again in cooler weather.

Do NOT reserve A3. We had a reservation there later in the week (we were staying in A9-which is a nice site). A3 looks nothing like the picture. You can barely fit a 2 person tent.

We stayed on the dune side of the tent sites. Sand stakes saved the tent from blowing away. Sand spurs are plentiful. Restrooms were nice. Showers were more like an outside beach shower. No lights at night, its a building behind the restroom. Partial doors, no place to hang anything inside with you that wouldnt get wet & showers are a chain you pull. We were very sweaty from our day but skipped the shower. Ocean is too far away to hear it at night. Cool experience. We stayed 1 night,

I car-camped here in March and stayed in the A-loop for tents/car campers to be away from the RV's, and it was wonderful. You can hear the traffic from NC12 a little bit, depending on how the wind blows, but it didn't bother me at all. The site (A-9) was right by the dunes with a private path to the beach. The showers were still turned off but there were flush toilets and the restrooms were heated. The big advantage is the location - it is just a short drive (10 minutes) from Nags Head, so if you want to explore the northern part of the OBX, this is very convenient to the Wrights Memorial, Jockey's Ridge, shops and restaurants, piers, etc. Even Currituck/Corolla is just an hour or so away. Then, to the south, right across Oregon Inlet, you have beautiful Pea Island and easy access to Hatteras and its attractions. You can get to all of this without taking a ferry. Cons: a bit of traffic noise (possibly more in peak season), no trees (so no shade in hotter weather, and shade tents could be problematic in windy conditions), sandspurs and biting insects in the summer, no showers in off-season; also, no campground hosts, and the rangers leave in the afternoon, so if there are any issues (loud parties, unruly guests, loose or barking dogs, etc) after hours, you are asked to call a non-emergency number, and there is nothing to prevent people coming into the campground at night. I didn't feel unsafe at all, but I can see how that *could* be a problem. A suggestion for the NPS: Hammock posts would be great!

This campground should have never been open as there were very high winds forecasted which chased us out of our tent at 4:00 am and early the same morning the water was shut down which eliminated use of the showers, toilet and running water. The winds made the situation dangerous. We payed for 3 nights, but were only able to sleep in our tent part of the first night and were unable to use the site the rest of the day as well. On the positive it is ideally located on a beautiful location.is campground should never have been open when we were there. The Wright Brothers National Memorial is fantastic.

Campsite is fine, wish the showers were a little nicer though, no where to put any dry clothes and having to pull and hold the shower is a pain, all fine if you just need to rinse some sand off, not great to actually shower if camping for an extended time. Enjoyed my time though, beach is just a minute walk and some good fishing in very close proximity to the campsites.

Great location. Access to beach can be tiresome climbing the dunes. ORV beach access is close and the marina is across the road.

The facility is good, the place is nature and wild. The only negative aspect is that the sandspurs grow so close to the campsite.
@AnjaF96D6A3B94 · Camped on Aug 3, 2022 at Campsite #A9
Very nice campground, especially the campsites on the oceanside directly in the Dunes. Just a few steps from the ocean and an amazing empty beach. Best place to watch the sunrise. Campsites are well equipped with charcoal grill and seating area. The campground hast toilettes and warm outdoor showers, which was great. Be aware that there isn't a lot of shade, the oceanside campsites don't have any shade at all. So in the summertime it can be really hot. There's not so much space between the campsites so you'll be next to your neighbor. And sometimes it is a little bit noisy as you can here the highway 12 passes along the campground. And there are no shopping facilities so bring your supplies.

The weather wasnt the greatest which put a damper on the camping experience. I stayed in Loop A tents only but slept in my van. It was very windy every day. I was four dunes over from the ocean which made a nice jaunt for sunrise. Next time I will opt for loop C which has less sand.

I stayed for a week in Loop D primarily reserved for tent camping - no generators. The ocean side sites are sand swept so be careful. The sites are without shade and close together. With the sand, the pads appear smaller than they are. The restrooms are clean and they did carefully observe the masking rule. The showers are clean and warm but the door only covers your ear to knee and then open to the elements. Fortunately it was a warm week. The handicapped spot is near the dumpster and the odors are noticeable. The camp staff are unfriendly and standoffish but oh well. Close to the marina where the dumpstation. Close to Nags Head and the Bodie Island Lighthouse. There was a lot of wind that week but I could see where would be a problem. Come armed and look carefully at the site before you book if you plan a screen shelter. Bring sand stakes. It is a hike over the dunes and there is no boardwalk. Go down to the public access beach by Bodie LIghthouse for a nice walkover the dunes. I use two canes and it was near impossible to make it to the beach from my spot. But when I did, bliss.

I really used it as a base to see other things and the Outer Banks. It was fine except for sand spurs and I guess you cant help that. Its that time of year.

Oregon Inlet campground is a great tent camping spot! The spot we had was right over the dunes from the beach. Even though the campground was about 1/2 full it was quiet and peaceful. The bath facilities were super clean and very convenient. Great experience!

Amazing campground with great facilities and staff. Not a complaint but, there is no cover or shade so make sure to have a canopy or something similar.

Our FAVORITE Campground in the area. Perfect spot between the Ocean and the Sound. BEAUTIFUL!

It is spectacular to sleep between the dunes. There is always the sound of the surge. The bathhouse delivers the essentials, it is well maintained, clean and offers warm shower. What do you need more? Great place to for bird watching.

This site is right on the beach and if you pick the right spot you will be able to walk right out front. We had a beach fire permit and enjoyed doing a beach fire in the evening and we used the BBQ for dinner. The camp site is one where the neighbors are close so you will hear it if they are packing up at 11pm to leave haha. This was also the only campsite we stayed at with warm showers. I would stay here again because of the proximity to town and the beach access.

My wife and I wanted to try out new camping equipment and spotted a few warmer days and nights in late November at Oregon Inlet Campground, so we made reservations online with the seniors discount. We were at site A9, which is next to beautiful sand dunes and beyond them the ocean. There's a path right from the site through the dunes to the beach. You can hear the relaxing sound of the surf 24/7. Also, this site is close, but not too close, to the rest rooms and showers. The common grounds, the camp sites and the modern facilities were super clean, not a single piece of litter anywhere, rest rooms shiny and spotless. The staff is friendly, attentive and helpful.Highly recommend.
