Bathrooms and shower were very clean! enjoyed how close the site was to the beach. There is plenty of space for camp equipment.

Ocracoke is a wonderful island and Im so glad there is a public campground. I stayed for almost two weeks in my camper van and enjoyed the quick walk over the dunes to the beach. Although the campground appeared to be 80% full with many large families, neither it nor the beach felt crowded. After doing some research and reading recommendations, I chose a site that was closer to the beach than to the road (which abuts a lagoon which equals mosquitos) and tried to get a site on loop C (no generators). The C loop bathroom was very clean and in good shape, but I noticed that the other bathrooms had older, stained toilet seats and battered mirrors - not sure why they havent been updated like the Loop C bathroom. The one big hiccup during my stay was that the dumping station across the road from the camp was closed for about 5 days - very inconvenient because there are no other public dumping stations on the island. The only suggestion was to take the ferry back to Hatteras and drive about 40 minutes to the next public campground. This wasnt feasible with my timeframe, so I limited use of my sink for dishes, etc. I wish that I had brought my bicycle to ride the 3 miles into town - there is a bike trail that parallels the road. Met several lovely people and petted a lot of dogs. Definitely going back again. One more thing, the showers are cold - but I got used to it and it can be mighty refreshing.
