I love the campground on ocracoke. The host was very accommodating as we requested a different campsite due to the available space and they moved us with no issues. Always coming back there

We got there at night and were scheduled to stay 3 nights total. The stars are amazing! And the water was warm, even late at night! And there was amazing bioluminescence in the water from plankton. The town was also very cool to check out. HOWEVER... The bugs at the campsite, and sometimes on the beach are absolutely horrendous! The mosquitos were bad enough, but they were not the main trouble. The no-see-ums were the problem. I could not go in or out of a tent or my hammock with bug net without a swarm of them flying inside! It seemed like there was a co stant swarm of them outside! I breathed in 3 or so while I was there because there are so many in the air! We could not go outside without them going all over us, and crawling on our skin and scalps! They stayed on us when we went inside our shelters too! We got covered in bumps and itchiness! And their bites hurt too! We could not get comfortable at all there, and it made it very difficult to sleep. Bug spray and citronella candles didn't do squat! They REALLY need to take care of the bug problem there. I cannot recommend anyone stay there, except maybe in winter. But you also cant have fires so that wouldnt be much fun. As counter intuitive as it seems, they need to build a pond with reeds that go into the water, and small poles around it sticking out of the ground, and place dragon fly larvea into the water. That way dragon flies will want to live there. They would perch on the small poles and swoop down ovee the water to catch mosquitos and no see ums. And they need to plant some trees, especially in pairs so that spuders will come and build webs between them. There are not enough places for spiders to build webs to catch bugs. Plus it would give lots of shade, which ther eis none of because its flat grassland. There is also no reason to not allow campfires there, as there are no trees to protect. They could even make extra money by selling firewood for fires. They need to make some major improvements.

Perfect campground. Please keep it as is. There are other places with full hookups etc. I appreciate the laid back vibe and proximity to the beach.
