We love the NPS campground on Ocracoke so much that we have been there coming for 19 years. It is rustic with cold showers only and no electricity or wifi signal, which makes it perfect for anyone who wants to be disconnected from all electronics and social networks and to be reconnected with nature. It is a unique pristine but fragile environment; we love sleeping at night with just the sound of the waves crashing on the other side of the dunes.

I think this is the best campsite of them all for space, shade, beach access, and privacy. The weather was unusually great. We came in the beginning of November and the mosquitos were still out in droves at dusk. Insect repellant only sort-of worked - we used Deep Woods Off. The dampness was another consideration. It was as if it was raining. Cell phone reception was good with Verizon.

This campsite is only for the brave and adventurous! Weve had it twice now. First in October and the mosquitoes were relentless. Second was in July and the black flies were even worse.. Woke up to hundreds that had gotten through the tent screen and were basically trapped turning us into a giant biting fly trap! Some animal took our small trash bag one evening after just walking up the dune to see the beach (dont worry they got what they were after and we cleaned up the mess with smiles on our faces, lesson learned). Your own scenic trail to the beach is a big plus and has plenty of privacy. Recommend setting up past the trees more out in the open (this last time we set up in the trees to avoid rain and think thats the reason for the black flies). Shortish walk to the restrooms and shower house but bring plenty of water and definitely bug spray. Adventure awaits!

Love the campground but the reservation system doesn't`t work properly. I wanted to book the site for 2 nights and was unable to do so and had to book another site for the second night. This happened to me on my last visit a few weeks before and is frustrating. I miss the days when a human helped with the process.

For pocket change, you can pitch your tent next to the dunes and sleep to the sound of the waves rhythmically and softly landing upon the shore. Nothing beats that. Just be sure to bring mosquito repellent...

The campground was beautiful, the hosts were very friendly and helpful. However, with the very limited water and bathroom facilities, maybe a discounted winter, off season fee would be more appropriate

Mobile Data Speed Map
#123
If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
