The campground was amazing! Despite no electric or water, this was by far my favorite part of the trip to the Outerbanks. Make sure your fresh water tank is full and you have a generator. The bathrooms were very clean. We were able to walk over the dunes and get right to the ocean. We went to town and rented a golf cart and drove around. It was fun even though it was the beginning of December and not much was open. We will definitely be going again.

The reservation system needs reforming in regards to cancellations. There should be a much greater return on your payment when you cancel to act as an incentive to cancel. That campsite should become immediately available. (in many campgrounds there are reserved sites that are empty, and could be used for (@ least) walk-ins v

Beautiful campground and the beaches are stunning. The only negative was although we had a campsite that backed to the dunes and had a trail directly to it the trail could not be used due to lack of maintenance and control of poison ivy which was growing everywhere.

A magical experience. My family camped here for several days after Christmas. The weather was great, 50s/60s, and the campground was fairly empty, so we had the beach to ourselves much of the time. The campground host was very nice and friendly, and the restrooms were clean. The dump station is just across the highway from the campground and is easy to pull through. We were able to roast oysters on the charcoal grill at the campsite which was one of many highlights. We will return for sure.

This campground is great, from the clean restrooms, to the walk over the dunes to the beach, to the dedicated bike path to town. It sets a great example for other NPS campgrounds.
The only issue we have is that one camper had a huge political flag on a pole that matched the height of the US flag. I appreciate that we all have the right to express our political views but this is an "in your face" example how not to do it. Doesn't matter which party, these campgrounds should be a politically free zone.
Mosquitoes are pretty bad , even with repellant on. Beach is not easily accessible from camp ground, climbing the sand dunes is a little ruff, defiantly not handy cap accessible. Rest rooms are new and very nice, don't understand why they would build new rest rooms with no hot water. camp grounds need fire rings. camp host was great.
We stayed at a couple different campsites during our 5 days day.. The bugs were at a minimum, the weather was wonderful couldn't ask for a better experience at Ocracoke.

Showers require repair, Also no lighting in showers or hot water.
We had great weather in mid-September and the ocean was still warm. Campground was about 2/3 full. Like that town is a 3 mile easy bike trip to town.

The campgrounds were well cared for. The Park needs more access to the sound side creeks for fishing. the only good access road has been chained off for the seven years I have been coming to the Island. The Staff was exceptionally helpful. This was one of the few Campground host that actually were Hosts.

We visited the campground in mid-March, so enjoyed the experience of a sparsely populated campground, nice weather and wide open views of the ocean with few people in sight. Our spot was along the dune side and surrounded in the back by low trees that gave it a nice sense of privacy in the rear. No doubt the best part of the campground is its location next to a pristine beach which makes up for the lack of hook-ups. We had respectful neighbors and virtually no generator noise. The outside showers appeared to be cold water only, so we did not use those given the outside temps during our visit. The bathroom was clean and spacious, with nice hooks near the sink area that allow for hanging a toiletry bag for washing up and brushing teeth. The hand dryer was broken and there were no paper towels, but that was a minor inconvenience. We missed being able to have a campfire, but understand the reason for the restrictions in this area. You can apply for a permit to have a fire on the beach if you so choose. There is a great paved bicycle/walking path to town, which make a ride into the village for shopping or sightseeing really safe and easy. Overall a very nice experience.
One of my favorite camp grounds. The location next to the beach is amazing and peaceful. The only downside was cold showers.

If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
