We love Ocracoke because it is quiet, fun, and DARK!!!! I was able to get some great picture of the milky way and andromeda and it was still early in the evening.

Great campground with well maintained access to the beach. The local community was great to hangout with as well at the local bars.

We love this campground! You need to be prepared for the weather and bugs, but if you take those precautions, you can have a very peaceful way to enjoy the sea right over the dune in the darkest place on the East Coast. We often see meteors and more stars than most places. My favorite extra is to hear the whippoorwills calling at night with the waves a constant background.

Please install an above ground cistern to hold water for showers. Paint it black to passively warm the water 🙂

We have been visiting Ocracoke for over 40 years. This is a rustic campground from which you can walk over the sand dunes onto a mostly deserted beach. Being three miles away from the village it is the perfect place to feel socially separated from the risk of contacting coronavirus. It is a family campground with a mix of RVs and tents and goes quiet after dark. The National Park Service manage it well and the head ranger on the Island visits to interact with the campers. We now have three generations that have enjoyed this campground over the years.Les & Liz Smith, North Carolina
