Great campsites. All in full sun. No electric or water. Nice toilet/ sink house w cold , no light shower house nearby. Short walk to beach thru deep sand. Super, polite, quiet, fun, from everywhere campers. 3 hour ferry ride to mainland so plan ahead. Book online as no staff to ck you in etc. Remember your site # as it will be posted on your site.

Ocracoke campground is one of our favorite places to visit. We usually take a couple trips a year to visit this special place. I don't shop much, but enjoy all the local shops and art, and the coffe on the island is the BESt!!. Great place to shell....I am a shellaholic. Best place on the East Coast to unwind and just breathe.

One our favorite campgrounds in the world. As a family we love sitting around a campfire at night. Of course that does not happen at Ocracoke. I've hounded you guys for the last few years with no changes. We actually went around the campground with a legal . All 84 campers we talked with want a simple campfire and all signed our questionnaire. Sand does not catch on fire. When I tried last year to get things changed the director brought up the situation with a fire dept. I went last year and met with the chief. The very large and modern fire dept is exactly 3.6 miles from the campground entrance. He said he could have a crew on location in 5 minutes or less. Has anyone from the national office ever visited this campground? The ironic situation is we also camp at Davidson River National campground in the mountains. A extremely heavily wooded area with no fire station within 10 miles and constant heavy traffic that would impede a fire dept from getting to the scene. Yet you guessed it, every camping spot has a fire ring. How stupid is that? The other sore spot is a simple solar shower. Every camper we spoke with will not use the shower facility. One lady said her 8 year old son screams and cries that the shower gives him an ice cream headache . It is freezing water. We've put a man on the moon, can't you folks come up with some simple solar system to at least get the water warm? People are not asking for a golf course or a water park just to have a campfire and a usable shower. Most campers, like our family try to camp at state campgrounds. I'm 74 years young and I've camped at 42 state campgrounds. All of them are fantastic with simple amenities and spacious spots. In walking around the campground at night folks are trying to build campfires in the grill. We saw several huge fires with burning logs falling out around people sitting there. This is truly a dangerous situation which apparently is OK with the rangers. I know my song obviously falls on deaf ears.
