Great access to southern facing beach at Frisco Campground. Good access to Lighthouse beach and Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Easy access to Haulover day use facility for soundside activities, sunset, kiteboarding.Easy access for day trip to Ocracoke Island.
We loved staying here! The walk to the beach was quite a ways but we were fine with that! Fairly close to places to eat....would definitely stay again!
The campground layout is nice, we had to move a picnic table to have a spot for our tent that wasnt half in the grass. The area was teeming with mosquitoes in early June, and they bite through multiple layers of clothes.Make sure you dont face your tent entrance directly in the wind so you dont blow the mosquitoes in.If you want to go to the beach at night definitely bring a headlamp or flashlight because youll be taking a long wooden pathway across the swamp thats next to the campgrounds. There was almost no one there after dark and its quite lovely on the beach. The shower water is cold but theres plenty of room. Portapotties and flush toilets are available.
Nature at its best. Exceptional views and access to ocean. Bring your 4WD since you can drive on beach. Clean bathroom facilities though very limited due to COVID. Super friendly staff. Ferry to charming Ocracoke Island is nearby. Ticks were prevalent this year so bring repellant.
November camping is the key! Felt like I had the whole place to myself, it was excellent!Showers were a bit on the cool side (they are not heated) . Ranger staff were friendly and engaging! What a perfect time to camp. Frisco ,hands down, the best in the Hatteras Nat'l Seashore, already planning next year's trip! PS: the fishing was great! MLChapman
Im not sure their names but the couple who were volunteering at the check in gate were very kind and decent to me and my family. I was a little confused as to where to put my tent because I got there late and they were having the roads repaved soon. Some of the spots were marked off and you couldnt camp there and of course I got confused and camped there. I was embarrassed when I realized my mistake. The couple laughed it off and said I could stay there because they could see i had my hands full with my family. I was very grateful and had many great conversations with them over the next few days. I love the area and love the fishing. My family had a great time and made great memories.
We stay here at least once a month from May-Oct (as weather permits). It is a well-maintained, family friendly campground. They have a lot of choices for sites whether you want to be out in the open or completely private. We love that you can walk or drive to the beach. There's a small store on the opposite side of the highway in case you need anything. The park rangers are very knowledgeable and eager to answer any questions you may have. They provide grills at each site, but you may not have an open fire in the sand. You have to choose the right time of day to shower when the water is warmer since it's non-electric. You'll definitely want to bring bug spray for the evening. Our favorite breakfast spot is Orange Blossom Cafe. Check them out during your stay & have fun!
We had a great time at this camp site. The weather was great and the sites were clean. Just be aware of the sand burrs which are prevalent. The staff were great and the bathrooms were always clean. The one downside was that we didn't know that half the site was under construction. This made things a little tough to find a spot next to a facility. We have toddlers and this was key for us.
We have camped at the OBX for years and most times at Frisco Campground. This campground is so overgrown and rundown we were so sad to see it. We stayed there last fall (2019) and were disappointed! The mosquitoes were horrible, the camping spaces had so much growth you couldn't walk around your camper, the bathrooms were nasty and we didn't even check the showers! Trees were growing over the sites and made it almost impossible to put your camper and/or tents anywhere. If this campground isn't cleaned up you might as well close it down! By the way we have been camping on the OBX for over 40 years. Frisco needs to be cleaned up. Cut down the trees and bushes, get rid of the sand spurs and the prickly pears too. It's impossible to walk anywhere without getting those things stuck on your shoes or into you feet and clothing, can't walk your dogs, your kids get stuck all the time. It is no longer a fun relaxing vacation spot! Either close it or spend the money to fix it up! Otherwise you will eventually have no campers at all!
Our experience was amazing!! The rangers were very friendly and helpful. Many, many very private and spacious lots available to choose from. The beach access was very close by and just incredible. The views, the wildlife..we loved it!!
We simply loved our camping experience! Although camping in the middle of summertime wasn't our greatest idea with our two very young kids; the campground itself was super clean & very well kept. The bathrooms and grounds were clean & we honestly have zero complaints about our time there.
We are Minnesotans who tented here in August, and it was hot (which we completely expected). The facilities were exactly as expected, and it was a great camping trip! Would definitely recommend bringing shoes to wear around camp, as there were quite a lot of sand burs.
This trip was better than we could even imagine. Plenty of sites to choose from & very well equipped. Restrooms & bath houses clean & neat. Overall great experience & one we will be doing again very soon!
We've been going to the Frisco camp ground for over 10 years and love the board walks to the beach where the ocean is always clean and clear. At the camp ground there's always a friendly fellow camper even in the secluded camp sites. Rest rooms and showers are conveniently located around the camp grounds. Love climbing the Hatters light hose and visiting the maritime museum.Looking forward to our visit in 2020
This is a great campground with a good mix of private sites w/ vegetation and wide open sites closer to the dunes. Facilities are adequate and the location is amazing for getting to the beach!
