Everything about our stay was great. The only down side was that there were burr cactus on our campsite and along much of the roadsides. We got them in our feet and in our dogs paws and they were painful and difficult to remove.

Terrific campground, especially for catching the ferry to Okracoke Island the next day. We love the perimeter sites where you can camp in the woods and out of the wind.

Very beautiful park, if you love the beach and water sports, you love this place. We wanted to hike ( we love walking) since it was too hot for us (we are from the north), we walk on the beautiful Frisco beach where it was cooler.

I got there just in time to catch waves from hurricane Tammy.

Site was clean and perfect for our needs. Even tent camping during an unexpected storm felt very safe, and we were protected. I love that most of the sites are secluded but just off the main road. Amazing campground!

Primitive & they charge the same as more developed CGs: No proper RV water fills— just water spiket at shower, no dump, no hot water showers & restrooms smell so didn’t use. Far from beach so access is difficult unless you have a 4x4 to drive on beach.

Great campsite on the upper level in the trees but be ready for mosquitos and ticks.

1. Been coming here for 15 years, which says it all, but the Trucks on the Beach have been a source of disappointment and unhappiness for visitors for many years. The simple solution is that there needs to be several hundred yards of beach sectioned off for campers walking to the beach, and closed to trucks. The dumb irony is that if you're in a campsite, you have to drive several miles to a no-truck beach, but if you're in a truck, you drive a quarter mile and park on the beach - this is backwards, not sensible or reasonable. Worth pointing out, this is a national park like the Statue of Liberty and Grand Canyon - it's not a question of "this is North Carolina and this is how we do it here." This is precious national land and shouldn't be a parking lot.

2. The rangers have always been great and helpful, but the park service seems to have cut back hours so they are only there rarely. Would welcome more ranger presence so the place doesn't start to feel like an urban park where people go wild and don't follow rules, eg, about blasting noisy 250cc generators all day & music.

3. The "host camper" site was flying a "Blue Lives Matter" flag. This is totally unacceptable, and will be addressed in a separate letter to Park administrators. This park has always been a place where people from everywhere in the country relax and enjoy the land and treat each other with hospitality and courtesy. Let's keep it that way.

Ticks everywhere. Each of 3 of us had 3-5 nymphs ticks bites. Left the site after 2 nights to avoid ticks. We stayed one night in a tent and a night in RV. Ticks were in RV as well. We spent almost all the time on the beach. We did not go to a forest or grass. Ticks are on the camp site, near pick nick table, grill. Look for ticks on the head under hears. Check all body each 6-12 hours. Permethrin treated tent and clothes, boots, hat and full cover from boots to hat should be a must here even at 90F heat.
