Overall it was a nice experience but the site had not been mowed/cared for even though we had booked well in advance. We couldnt use the picnic table, grill, or any area other than the concrete slab due to all the sticker bushes at the site. Our poor dog was covered in them.

Awesome campsite. Ran solar and it kept both batteries up. It is a long boardwalk to the beach definitely not handicap accessible. Sites are short but worked well for our 21' camping trailer and truck. Neighbors ran loudest generator on earth but Ranger came to tell them it was quiet hour and to shut it off. No lights meant awesome stargazing. When you dump you do have to drive north to other NPS campground. Enjoyed minimalist existence for three nights. We will definitely be back!

Campground is excellent with the exception of the sticker plants which are EVERYWHERE. My dog took 2 steps on grass at our site and screamed in pain, burrs between almost all toes. If you have a dog, think twice about this campground as you’ll have to keep them on the paved areas and boardwalks. Annoying burrs got on everything. There are other campgrounds I passed getting there, but I don’t know if they have the same issues with the sticker plants.

Best natural campground on all the Outer Banks! Unexpectedly rolling hills with lots of privacy between sites. Only issue was the grass with burrs all over that got in the paws of our dog. Loved the place and will return often.

Marvelous adventure, great campground, and I think Ranger Michael is the most helpful Park Ranger I’ve ever met! He had excellent wisdom to share about local natural treasures AND he even swung by to make sure that I got in ok after checking in late! Best Ranger EVER!

We arrived needing to dump our tanks and discovered at the gate that the dump station was 4 miles back at the Lighthouse. Would have been good to know that ahead of time. We were also given a very poor site for the size of our rig. So short that I couldn't put my rear jacks down as the back 6 feet of the trailer was hanging over a drop off in order to fit in the space. Because we had to turn around to dump, by the time we got to the site, it was after 5pm so we couldn't ask for another site. The friends traveling with us were given a non-RV site that was too short and impossible to get level. We loved the camp but needed more attention to an appropriate site for our stay.
