This campground is very quiet - so quiet you can hear the waves in the farthest sites. Camp hosts were great and checked in if they saw us sitting outside. The mosquitos are no joke and were competing with the birds in size. :) Thermacells provided not protection and sprays provided limited protection so be prepared. Tavern on 12 was great for dinner. Frisco Woods Campground allowed us to load up water and dump when we left for $20.

This is a wonderful campground. There is elevation change that open up great dune and a few ocean views, there is good privacy at many sites. One of our favorite NP Campgrounds.

If youre looking for a true beach camping experience then this is the place. Love the serenity, the privacy of the campsites, the beach access. Bathrooms are very clean, lighthouse, the Ocracoke Ferry, lots of great restaurants are just around the corner.

Very high population of mosquitoes concentrated just at this site. Bring a thermacell otherwise youll leave with a few flying friends.

Overall, an amazingly private and well kept campground. Next time, I would try and book well in advance for a spot with a view of the ocean. The only turnoff was the fact there is no recycling bins. Everything just gets dumped in one big container. Hard to understand considering our environmental situation.

Still a nice place. We were lucky that nobody used a generator close to us. In fact, the only person using a generator used super-silent one that we could barely hear.Cellphone data is very hard get at that location, we had to stand on a table at the higher point, so it is very hard to get a campsite since there is no staff. I wished some of the unreserved site would become walk-in site at some time in the night so we could simply take them and pay the park ranger the next morning.

This is a very nice campground with some trees that provide shelter. It was pretty quiet during our stay. Virtually no staff visible the whole time we were there. The sites are not set back very far from the road, so on the outer loop there is a fair amount of traffic passing by the site. But there is more privacy than the other two campgrounds on the island. It's walking distance to the beach. I don't know why the Park Service can't figure out how to prevent no-shows that tie up sites for people who reserve them but don't show up. Maybe require a refundable deposit or a deadline to show up or call. It's a shame that people who want to camp can't get a site because someone has reserved it and doesn't use it. I was very disappointed that there is no way to recycle at the campground -- on Earth Day no less!
