Meeks Bay Resort is awesome, 5 stars, but the new reservation system has serious issues they need to fix, so that's the reason for 1 star. When booking, you only pay a deposit, which is typical. Instead of collecting the remaining amount on check in, you have to pay the rest 30 days in advance or your reservation is automatically canceled. This happened to us, and someone took our spot before we noticed, so we had to scramble to find open sites and we ended up away from the rest of our group we booked next to, and had to pack up and move sites on different nights. Since recreation.gov manages reservations, the staff said they couldn't do anything and were not helpful at all, even though they told us this has been happening to multiple other visitors. Hopefully they can change how the system is setup to make it work differently because it's really frustrating to plan a trip 6+ months in advance only to have it change last minute.
