I would recommend telling visitors to bring their own wagon to move camping gear from the car to the campsites. Kirby Cove does not provide wheel barrels or wagons.

Was a lovely place to camp. The pit toilets were well kept. The grounds were relatively clean and free from litter.

It's always a pleasure to be welcomed to Kirby cove wonderful place to meet new people and enjoy new experiences in the wild while being close to one of the biggest cities in the world.

Great campsite. Close to everything. But you feel far away from everybody at the same time. Magical place. Well worth staying here at least once. Bucket list location that you won't soon forget.

One of my favorite campgrounds of all time

We got lucky with the weather and got a clear view of Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco until about 11 pm when the fog rolled in, after which the fog horns started blaring. That did cause a sleepless night for many. Remember to always bring ear plugs when camping at Kirby Cove.

Site#4 was spacious. Comfortable for 4 tents. Close by parking and restroom. Didnt experience any raccoon. Big fire pit. Definitely would come back again. Fog horn cant be avoided if there is fog throughout the night.

It was a beautiful campground and the site was much bigger than I expected. We really enjoyed the extra picnic tables it made things a lot easier with all the extra space. We are going to come back as soon as possible.

Location difficult to find at night. One way road into park. Not close to entrance as it appears on map. Dirt road with no guard rails going down side of mountain. Description was inaccurate. Lost $80 as could not camp here due to road condition to camp site and no refunds provided. Disappointing welcome to san fran late at night.

Raccoons and no carts. Otherwise heaven on earth

This area is sooo enjoyable. We stayed in site 4 which has always been my favorite, but we might try site 1 next time. Lots to do in the headlands. As Mikey sez ‘ try it, you’ll like it’

Well we needed a good hike-guess we had to earn our entry. We arrived a little late & did not know if we were in the right place, but apparently that WAS the gate where we were supposed to enter the code. Would have been nice if there were a sign or better explanation to enter the code. But we hiked all the way down the road & a park ranger was kind enough to give us a ride out the next day. “Most people drive in.” Um, yeah. We’re not most people. But now we know. Hope to return again sometime.

Spots filled up instantly as they were released. We were lucky to get Site #4, which was nice and secluded site. Beautiful view of the Golden Great Bridge is a short walk from our spot. Campgrounds are a lot further from the parking lot than we thought from the pictures. Be prepared to carry all your gear so pack lightly (or bring a wagon and plan to make multiple trips back and forth to the car). Previous campers left a mess at our spot. It appears they tried to burn as much of their trash as possible, then left the rest in the bear box, including dirty diapers. Yeah, dirty diapers where everyone is supposed to store their food. Unfortunately we did not discover this until we were scrambling to put our stuff away when the raccoons came out.

Tempted to leave a bad review since it is already hard to get a reservation here! ;-) Had a great time. Weather cooperated. It was a perfect staging location for nice hike on the coastal trail and a bike ride into the City for dinner one night (Radhause at Fort Mason, dessert at Ghirardelli's) . Fog horns the second night were not too disturbing up in site 4, actually enjoyed them. Site 1 by the beach might have been a different story. Lots of poison oak, so need to stay on the trails. Avoided the oak, but picked up a tick which was crawling on me when I got home, so there is that as well. Very nice beach. Fun place to hang out and talk with the local fisherman who come there. Definitely my favorite local camping place.

The sound of the bridge sounds like the apocolypse! Site 4 is the move :)
