Putting it plainly, Point Reyes is a gem. Miles of trails, miles of beaches, miles of smiles. The backpacking sites provide a great getaway all year round.

Great beach access, nice private campsites (1-7) and a variety of hike length options depending which trailhead and trails you choose.

Coast Campground site #1 is well-protected from the wind, which was nice. Water and bathroom isn't too far of a walk, and beach access is great. The site is small, and is advertised as fitting 6 people. There were 6 in our party and it was very tight fitting 3 backpacking tents. It really should be advertised as fitting 4 people.

I just loved the Coast campground. Sunsets were amazing, it was clean, no problem getting stakes into the ground, and water was good. Bathrooms were also surprisingly clean. I did not need extra toilet paper I brought. It is not far from the beach, and had plenty of wildlife.

Point Reyes in October is Beautiful! Early mornings were foggy/damp/drizzly, but the sun came out later in the mornings during my stay. Site 1 seems to have the best view of the ocean out of all the sites, though 2 and 3 also looked good. While sites 1-7 were each pretty private (especially compared to 8-14), #1 was probably the least private of the bunch - which was fine for me, it was still spaced out from the others and surrounded by brush. The bear box for site 1 in particular required some persistence to get open - more than the usual bear box.

even though it was cold temperatures and one night with pouring rain and strong winds, most campsites, both at Sky and Coast camps were occupied, so plan well ahead to reserve a site for a wonderful Pt. Reyes experience.

Breathtaking. Geologically tumultuous. An elaborate array of fauna and floral. Kind and courteous staff. DO IT.

Coast Campground is an easy two-mile walk (part on the beach) from the Limantour Beach parking lot. The sites are spacious, flat, and well-equipped. It's such a gorgeous spot! We had a wonderful overnight, watched a hawk hunt quail, watched sea lions in the surf, saw a fox and a skunk and a ton of rabbits. Absolutely wonderful. Each site has a picnic table, a bear box, there is potable water available and two pit toilets.

Facilities at Coast Camp were excellent. I was in campsite 1. Views of the ocean and the mountains. Beach close by is beautiful. Woodward Trail in through forest fire remains beautiful but stark, back on Fire Lane trail beautiful but steep.

The campsites on the hill above the shore were nicest for privacy. In site 1 you can hear the waves well and the site was pristine. My biggest issue with COAST campground was the trash dropped in vegetation (or dragged there by an animal). It was pretty bad considering how many trash bins were available. Also I found someones poop and wipes under a bush right at the entrance to the campground. There were some young children staying nearby, so I think they were the most likely culprit but it was still unsettling.

We completely enjoyed our 2 night get away at the Coast Camp Ground last week. It is a well maintained site and we loved the proximity to the beach teeming with aquatic wildlife including a whale! We're looking forward to camping there again soon!

Stayed at Coast Campground site #1. Nice site with a moderate view of the ocean. The site has a decent amount of privacy due to the height of the bushes. Can get windy. Not as much of a climb up the hill to your site as #'s 3-7, and while still a bit of a walk to the bathroom, closest water spigot is just before site 8. Beware of the poison oak however (including small sprouts along the edge of the bushes circling the site and the path leading up to the site). For a nice day hike, walk to Sculpture Beach along the Coast Trail and circle back to Coast Campground along the beach (or vice versa depending on tide). Would go again in a heartbeat. :-) Loved it.

It was a very easy hike over the hill to Coast camp. Then it was a very short walk from the camp to the beach so be sure to go down there and watch the waves crash on the shore. Its an excellent place to go for a one night get away!

We took the longer hike in, and it was a relatively easy 3 mile walk. Site 1 has a nice view of the landscape looking towards the ocean and a fair amount of privacy. We could hear people walking the path if they were talking but otherwise it's a quiet place to camp with friendly campers. Bathroom was clean (and had TP!) and a few minute walk from the non-group sites, but not bad. It was nice that there were garbages and recycling containers available as well as two water spigots in the group camping area. There is a large tree just off the trail to the beach some people hung hammocks in, otherwise no other place to hang a hammock that we saw (Coast Campground). The sun does get quite intense throughout the day so be sure to bring hats, etc.

Plenty of roadside parking. Nice easy hike in. Easy ocean access from camp. Great day hikes nearby. Plentiful wildlife. We had a wonderful time. The only negative comment is that all sites on the website showed reservations. We were in the section for sites 1-7. On the first night only 2 of sites 1-7 were occupied and the second night only 4 of sites 1-7 were occupied. I made my reservation in January or February to get in because i'd been trying for two years prior and it was always full. If you are not going to use your reservation, please cancel so others have the chance to reserve a spot. I can't wait to go again, but it's a four-hour drive so I can't go on a whim just in case a spot is open. I need to reserve.
