The hike in trails were well manicured. So less worry about poison oak and ticks. I love that the site is so close to the beach! Most campsites are surrounded by brush that gives more privacy.

Site #5 provided a nice, level and private spot for the tent. However, the latch on the fairly-new bear box was somewhat challenging.

Sky Camp #11 had great views. Coast Camp #5 was just yards from the beach and I saw and heard humpback whales. Glen Camp, which is more in the woods, is a quiet gift. Well done Rangers, this is a perfect, safe spot, for women pursuing solo camping experience. What a gift we have in the Pt. Reyes National Seashore!

I have a few comments about things that could be improved, but I first want to say what a wonderful experience this was for me and my family. The ability to take my kids on their first backpacking trip, but still have a toilet and water nearby made it a wonderful first step. The stars were unlike anything my kids have seen before, the cool weather (when it was 110 in the valley) was so welcomed, and it was a memorable experience for all with the kids already talking about doing it again next year. For the improvements:We had poison oak in our camp. Not just along a path somewhere which you cant control, but actually within arms reach of our tent spot. I think the park service could do better here. Luckily we identified it and avoided it, but Im quite sure others staying in this campsite would not have been so lucky. Our site #005 on Coast was nice and secluded, but our tent area smelled of urine. I guess when your site is nice and secluded people dont bother walking to the bathroom. The stinging nettles were unavoidable on the trails with all of us being stung many times. Again I assume nettles off the path, but I would expect the park to be better about clearing the actual trail of these. Finally the overgrowth of the trail in general was a bit much. We were already cautious of ticks and wanted to avoid wading through grass, but parts of the trail were so overgrown that the grass was above our heads and we were pushing through it. Kids joked about needing a machete. Im just happy no one had any ticks. We had to check several times to be sure. Again, big picture was a wonderful and memorable experience. We will be back. I just think there a few things that should have been better maintained.

Stayed two nights at Coast Camp #5 followed by two nights at WIldcat Camp #6. Beautiful trip. Cold winter evenings are fine with lots of wool and down layers! One big rain and wind day at Wildcat. Bear box latches in sites are now so stiff (rusty?) that they're very hard to open and close, even the newer ones at Coast. (Wildcat's new bear boxes are about to be installed, currently all in a pile near the bathrooms). Had to put a medium-size stone up inside the latch cover and push IT against the latch mechanism. Large guy-hands might do ok.Amazing high and low tides because January + new moon! Luckily this time the low-low tide was in afternoon rather than middle of night. So at Coast Camp I was able to get all the way to "Secret beach no. 2"! Requires a minus tide. From Sculptured Beach to SBno.1 climb up onto an outcrop (easy, almost steplike access), then around it to the cliffside, and then a trickier but short climb straight down a 'corner' notch to the sand. (On my way back, I couldn't climb back up the same way - shoes too slippery to hold on the first slanted foothold - but turns out to be an easy short climb up the nice curved shoulder of the outcrop, tons of handholds and footholds. That way is harder to see from above though, so would probably still use the straight notch for coming down.)Then walk behind next outcrop and you have access (at low tide) to get through either a minus tide walk-thru arch or a higher crawl-through tunnel over to Secret Beach #1. Secret Beach #2 has the Hole-in-the-ceiling cave! Right there as soon as you get onto that 2nd beach (yet another arch-tunnel, then - only at a minus tide - you can get over some rough tidepool rocks to the beach). The cave has a lowish rock entrance but inside is a huge round interior in the soft cliff material open to sky! Awe-inspiring. Beautiful beach with great layered strata in cliffs. Leave enough time to get back before incoming tide blocks way.

Beautiful park, lots of wild life. Camping near the beach was great and the camp ground had convenient facilities, drinking water, garbage and a pit toilet. Baby Quails, 2 fawn and their mom and a coyote came through the camp ground.

My family and I did our first backpacking trip with my two year old son and it was amazing. We did the shorter 1.8 mile hike to the coastal campground and it was totally manageable with a toddler. The campground and toilets and potable water, and it is very close to a gorgeous beach. The only downside was the immense amount of poison oak around our campsite, but that's to be expected here! Bring layers:)

Great place to visit! The sites are clean and have enough privacy, though you will hear your neighbors into the night. Potable water was available and the bathrooms were clean. Tons of day hikers pass right by camp so be prepared for lots of people mid-day. The beach is a 2 minute walk from camp. Secret beach is about a 1.5 mile hike along the beach. We will definitely be returning!

Wonderful as always at Pt. Reyes! I agree with the review that called it 'heavenly'. Need to correct my Coast Camp review from January 2022, where I warned about food-stealing raccoons up the little hill of very private campsites, #1-7. and recommended staying in the meadow sites instead. I was WRONG. It used to be true before the Woodward Fire closed all the campgrounds for almost two years, these nice and very private sites used to be plagued with hordes of bold thieving quarrelsome raccoons. But apparently they all left during the 2-year closure and haven't returned yet!. (They were not burned out, the fire didn't get to Coast Camp.) Since January I have stayed in these sites up "Raccoon Alley" almost once a month for multiple days, and haven't seen any. Rabbits, deer, chipmunks, now quite a few voles (I think - like a large cute fluffy gray mouse but much shorter tail than a mouse or rat), one muskrat (yay!) and many birds have shown up in my camp, but nary a raccoon this year. No teeny mice have gotten into the lockers here yet either. One got in to my locker at Glenn Camp, but that was before these new taller lockers were installed, not sure mice can climb up these new long metal legs to get in. Don't leave anything leaning against the food locker for them to climb up, though - once on the ledge under the body of the locker, the very small mice (not the bigger voles) can squeeze in through the narrow crack under the doors or holes in the latch mechanism. The new concrete tables/benches are cold! will need insulation to sit on them in the winter! But the old wooden ones were falling apart, so they did need to be replaced. Thank you Pt. Reyes for all the work. And good riddance to the banned bbq grills! Dirty and took up room, not to mention the fire hazard.

Great campsite. Bring warm clothes and use the locker provided at the campsite due to rodents near the site.

Wonderful except for two different groups of nearby campers who felt that they needed to play canned music at their campsites just like they would in their cars. I would have much preferred to hear the wind and the ocean waves, and I'm sure a lot of other campers felt the same way. They didn't blast the music, but it was audible all up and down the row of campsites.

Absolutely beautiful park and very well maintained. My only negative comment is some of the campsites are very unlevel making it difficult to set up a tent comfortably. In some cases camping right outside of the campsite would have been nicer since it was flatter ground.

Individual campsites are out of the wind and protected by brush. Lots more privacy than wildcat camp. The individual sites are pretty far from the group sites, which is quite nice. Easy beach access. We hiked in from Palomarin trailhead. Totally doable but it is a full day trek. So far this is my favourite way to get to Coast, since you pass through all of Point Reyes varied scenery. A shorter alternative is to come in from Bear Valley via Mount Wittenberg and Woodward Valley trails.

The campsite was tucked away and private. Besides being the coldest night of the year I think waking up to frost everywhere was kinda cool. The beach in the morning was absolutely gorgeous. Planning another trip soon

Coast campground is just a short walk away from the beach. However, there are no fires allowed on the campgrounds. You can make a bbq fire for cooking though. It also requires a 2 mile hike to reach these campgrounds. That can be quite draining if you have a lot of stuff to carry. It should've only been a 40 min hike, but our group ended up taking 2 hours because of all the things we tried to bring along haha.Campgrounds 1-7 are tucked away and feel private because there are a lot of plants. However, there is a lot of poison oak mixed within those plants. Do be very careful not to touch the plants! In winter, the poison oak may just look like dried twigs coming out of the ground, but they're still quite poisonous. In my opinion, campsite 4 and 5 are more open toward pathway, so they don't seem as private as the other 1-7. The other campsites 8+ are definitely more exposed, which will make for a colder evening. Although they might not have the same issues of poison oak.Do watch out for the poison ivy!
