From the photo, I was excited to camp at Sky #9. However, a bit disappointed with the site, and the visit. Pros: The rangers at the Bear Valley Visitors Center were very kind and helpful. There are many beautiful and diverse things to see at Point Reyes. Restrooms (clean and well maintained) and potable water is so convenient, and a real plus. And, if you need any additional food or supplies, Point Reyes Station is only a few miles away. Note that while Sky #9 has a distant view of Drakes Bay, it was fogged-in when I visited on May 10th. Cons: The Sky #9 site is small, and it is NOT level. This made it difficult to sleep. It was adequate for my 3 person tent, but your tent will be perched between the bear box and a picnic table, with little other space. Your tent will be about 20 feet from the tent in the adjacent site. There is no shade at this site, and you will be in the direct sun. As far as the park itself, while I very much enjoyed the park, it was very disappointing to drive 30+ miles on windy roads to arrive at a trailhead, only to find that the trail was completely overgrown with 5-6 foot tall tick-infested weeds, and having to turn around.

This had to be one of the most beautiful campsites I've stayed at. And a big plus was the potable water available at the camp to save us from having to haul it all up on our backs!

This trail is a blast, although there are some overgrown areas, it lends to the depth of the journey and its ability to liberate your mind from the shackles of the daily grind, just do it.

We loved sky camp. An easy hike for 5 grandkids between the age of 6 & 10. Loved the walk further up the trail to the trail to Wittenberg

Pretty decent distance between campsites.

Easy hike in from the Sky Trailhead, about 1.5 miles. Beautiful campsite, great hike down to the beach though it was a bit overgrown in places. Would be great for a group and the hike could definitely be done with a wagon if needed.

Lovely hike-in to the campground. If you dont want a strenuous hike in, park at Limantour and take Sky trail. If youre up for a longer hike, park in Bear Valley and take Mt Wittenberg-Sky trail. We especially enjoyed early morning hikes on Sky trail when it was foggy. Dont expect the scenic views in spring/summer (we were lucky enough to have 1/3 nights clear). But it is still gorgeous in its own way with the fog. Sites themselves are on the smaller side, but nice and clean. Great, new picnic tables!

Really beautiful. We had a fun little stay at the newly-reopened sky camp. We watched a gorgeous sunset after dinner, and enjoyed the campground. The only issue was that a raccoon (or raccoons?) tried to crawl into our tent three times! We had no food inside, this was all kept in the metal locker. It kept poking its head into the vestibule and scratching its claws to dig under. I had to keep shooing it away all night. Not much sleep as I was on lookout...Anyway, we are in their territory so it comes with the deal. Maybe it was just curious since there haven't been any people camping there since 2020.
