If it sounds too good to be true to camp right beside Lake Tahoe, it kind of is. First, the awkwardness of literally camping in people's backyards is just...odd - our site abutted 3 backyards within 20 feet. Second, the surface of the camping area was like moon dust - never seen anything like it - if you don't mind getting powdered dirt on *everything*, this may not bother you but we found it to be a dirt/dust cloud. Third, we had the unfortunate circumstances where a group near our site partied like it was 1999 until after 2am - despite the hosts warning them firmly at 10pm, they ignored and continued - we and I believe 3 other surrounding campers vacated early after it was clear they weren't going to be evicted. Our long planned long weekend was destroyed. Fourth, and sad, Lake Tahoe has become completely overrun beyond imagination and has reached a tipping point this Summer, likely due to COVID driving camping demand - we tried to drive around the lake to find a place to hike or SUP and found literally 4+ mile backups of parked cars by every slightly interesting attraction lake-wide with people totally ignoring social distancing to boot. Tahoe might need to consider imposing some visitor count restrictions. We also noted the valid protesters complaining about rampant visitors leaving trash everywhere. FAR too many people, too much late night partying ruining it for families, too much disrespect for the beauty in our opinion.
