Lots of privacy on campsites. Well maintained facility.

nice campsite, big open grassy area adjacent to the site, yet close to restrooms. Fairly private, huge trees in CG!

This is absolutely a great campground.... with one exception. The good - Very clean, well maintained sites, bathrooms, etc. Location is excellent with easy access to lakes, bike paths, hiking etc.Exception: If you have a strong fear of bears I would not camp here. The bear situation is as bad as I have seen and I fear will eventually end poorly for people or the bears. There are at least 1-2 bears that are completely acclimated to people and go campsite to campsite in broad daylight looking for anything not locked in the bear cabinet. They will do this even if you are physically present at your campsite and are not scared off by noise. If you are cooking/eating you need to be ready to rapidly put all your food inside your bear cabinet as soon as you become aware that a bear is on the move (usually indicated by other campers using noisemakers or setting off their car alarms - which doesn't work). Then just wait for them to move on. I had one come into my campsite and paw at my bear box when I was only 25 feet away setting up my tent.

Site was spacious and the campground was well maintained. Great spot.

Weve stayed at this campground many times but this time it seemed noisier than ever. Too many cars parked haphazardly, too much campfire smoke and dogs left to bark all day while owners were away. You wouldnt know that there is a limit of 6 people and 2 dogs per site.

Lovely site that backed up on the meadow, but wind was high. Bathrooms and showers were clean and convenient. Hosts were amazing! Love this campground! It's the best in the Tahoe region!

Fallen Leaf Campground is one of the larger USFS campgrounds which we have visited. It has both flush toilets and showers (though many were out of commission during our stay). We camped here in June 2021, at a large, relatively private spacious campsite backing onto the central meadow (Site 202). Only downside of this particular campsite is the mid-day sun exposure for several hours (approx. 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and on hot days, items will heat up in the bear storage unit unless in the cooler. Fallen Leaf Lake is a short walk (about 1/2 mile or less) from the campsite - a longer distance from the sites closer to the entry.

There is bear activity, including a mama bear and two cubs who live in the campground, and, as far as I can tell, minimal education/instruction to novice campers was provided during our stay, other than the standard preventive instructions of removal of all food and scented personal items.
Please keep a respectful distance from this mother bear and her cubs to the extent that you can. She apparently is habituated to humans which means that the USFS/USFWS will not relocate her if she becomes a nuisance or threatens humans due to a perceived threat to her babies. Instead, she will be destroyed! So fellow campers - help protect this bear family by keeping yourselves and pets a safe distance from this family - bears can charge and they are fast! Be aware that mama bear and her cubs may hang-out and sleep over in or near your campsite - but LEAVE HER ALONE unless she's getting into your stuff (which shouldn't be the case if you've packed all your food/scented items in the bear storage unit).
There's also a young, juvenile male bear that was roaming the campsite and inspecting tables and the like during early evening hours when many were eating dinner. Banging two pots together and speaking/yelling in a loud, firm voice seemed to deter him - the honking of horns that many campers were doing seemed to be less effective.
