Site 183 requires walking farther to the picnic table and fire pit from the driveway compared to the sites nearby. And it is quite large allowing for more space between you and your neighbors. Theres a plenty of space to choose from to place your tent too.

Really well kept facilities. All the campsites are well kept and shady. The ranger staff was friendly. No bears in sight but they are around for sure.

We had site 183 and it was huge! We could have fit 6 large tents on the site. Lots of big trees and lots of shade. We were right next to the bathrooms as well so that was nice. The parking on the site was just big enough for our 1 car, a Suburban. The site has a large bear box, fire ring, a picnic table and a free standing grill you can fill with charcoal. The campground connects to Fallen Leaf Lake, a large lake south of Lake Tahoe. Our kids went there every night after dinner and swam in the lake and paddle boarded. The beach on the lake was not sandy, but rocky with wood chips. We had a bear in our campground two mornings of the three we were there. Our camp neighbor saw a bear the first morning come into our site, sniff our bear box, then our tent, then walked out of our camp site. The second morning we awoke to people in the campsite next to us banging pots for 30 minutes to scare away another/same? bear. Then one night coming back from the lake a bear was walking through camp and we had to pause while it walked across the road in front of us. Bear prevention practices definitely needed while you stay there! Keep all your food in the bear box and also all your smelly toiletries as well! While we were there we went to Pope Beach (7-8 minute drive away) and Emerald Bay area (15 minutes away). Just be sure to get wherever you want to go early. We went to Pope Beach on a Sunday and in order to get a parking spot you had to be in line at 7:25 am (it opens at 8). My brother got a spot and the rest of us had to park on the main highway and walk in. We got to Eagle Falls trailhead on Monday at 6:45 am and barley got spots to hike the trail. Emerald Bay has a parking lot and the only way down to the bay is by walking - 1 mile down and 1 mile back up - 500 ft. elevation. We went back to Pope beach on Tuesday and it was much easier to get a spot in the middle of the day, but there was still a line to get in. Traffic on the weekend was terrible. Lots and lots of people.

Large camp sites, clean campground, beautiful lake. We did see a bear on our way out.

We had the best time. The campground was spacious and quiet and surrounded by beautiful trails. We had an amazing time.

Beautiful campground & really appreciate access to the lake from the campground. One recommendation: provide a porta potty near the beach of the lake. So many people & kids use this lake access & need facilities to make their stay enjoyable & to keep the area & lake pristine. It's not acceptable to use the woods nearby or to use the lake when nature calls. Also, there was no cell service in the campground with Verizon. That made connecting with other family members impossible & extremely inconvenient. Thank you.
