Bear! If this doesn't bother you, great. What might are all the group campers piled into 1 campsite. I think there are 200 spots at this campground and it's huge. If you want to stay at the campground, a bike is a fun option, so are dog walks. The facilities are fine and functioning, campsites clean. The pine trees are amazing and the sound of the wind blowing through them is haunting, in a cool way. Camp hosts are friendly and well travelled - chat them up! Road driving in from hwy is worn and bumpy. If only more government funds could be spend on campground maintenance! Tahoe is very, very, very crowded over the summer. It's a bit much for me. I'll be checking things out again off season, and when the bears are catching their Zzzzzzzzz.

Be bear knowledgeable. The bears sniffed around our campground about 3 or 4 times, but weren't interested in humans. The bears only wanted whatever food we may have left on the picnic table or if there was food in our gear.

Love this campground. One host was a bit feisty.

Fallen Leaf Lake has a tiny little general store right by check-in booth but never made it inside with so manybother things to do. Nice to know though. Apparently wood bundles are $9 each though, not bad. There are over 200 aites here, but quite apread out and relatuvely quiet given the attendance -- we were all very pleasantly surprised! The campground itself was maintained nicely...not sure if there were spots for full hook-ups. The roads seemed pretty well maintained and most of the spots seemed to be pretty level. There is NO dump station on hand. Checking in for camping wasn't too difficult...drive in and you see your name and site # (if after hours) and then the next morning go get a car pass. A 2nd car cost $21 for 3 nights, so likely my hubs paid $7/night (but not worth my effort to ask him ha).BE AWARE it's BEAR COUNTRY , and mismanagaing your food storage and clean up is considering baiting a bear which comes with a huge fine...think it was $5000 but details are in the on-site signage (believe I took a pic of it for others to see).Fallen Leaf Lake was GORGEOUS and we chose it because it's nice to not have the crowds that Lake Tahoe has. Also most camp sites is a hike from the water so be prepared to drop off your stuff at the Lake and take your car back. Best drop-off point we found was between sites #74 & #75 to carry stuff up and over that hill, but be advised that it is UP & OVER...it was longer than I thought trying to carry to paddleboard backpacks and a bag of snacks. Multiple trips would've been smarter if I had the manpower to have someone stay at both ends with the stuff.Camp Richardson has a dump station on hand and $12 for non-registered CR guests. HINT: If you're looking to JUST use the dump station, you have to go to the Hotel to pay the $12 there, not the general store.

fantastic camp. plenty of bathrooms--very clean. spaces are far enough apart for privacy, but close enough to know you are not alone. we had our dogs and 2 kids. super nice short walk to the lake, and also not very far from civilization. the best of both worlds! definitely would come back again. $36/night for dry camping is reasonable. we stayed in a 24ft class C. can't wait to make more memories.

Amazing campsite, friendly hosts, and clean bathrooms! The location is also great - tucked away so you are out in nature, but just about a 5 minute drive from Camp Richardson and only a 15 minute drive from Heavenly Village. We loved it!! We will definitely be coming back here!

Until Fallen Leaf gets their act together regarding bears, I probably won't be returning here. I've camped and backpacked all over California, and am used to the occasional interaction with bears, but the degree of habituation I encountered here was worrying for both the bears and myself. I tried to report our encounters to staff, but they basically laughed it off, telling me stories about bears jumping on peoples tables while they were eating. This isn't 1965 and bear habituation isn't funny: it's a dangerous road for both the people and the bears. Get it together.
