I have been camping at New Hogan lake for 40 years. I was hoping to make the same memories with my kids as I did when I was a child.

My recommendation/suggestion to other people considering a camping trip here is to look elsewhere! I was there for 2 days and only saw the park ranger 2 times (had to find her the 2nd time)... and she was rude to us during our first encounter! There was no need to talk to us the way she did over our trucks and boats not be on the parking pads... we had just arrived shortly before this encounter and moved them immediately at her threatening requests. We are middle aged adults who don't appreciate younger people talking to us in that manner! It's unnecessary and disrespectful!
The second day we were there my $250 Colman camping stove and my friends $450 wakeboard were stolen from our campsite when someone just walked into our sites while we were on the lake and helped themselves to our belongings! That was our second encounter with the park rangers but they were as accommodating and helpful as possible this time.
Because this happen during the day and in broad daylight I can only feel that if the park had an employee at the entrance gate... which on Friday and Saturday they DID NOT this theft may not have happen! By not having an employee at the gate to check cars in anyone can just easily stroll in and help themselves to anyone's property and drive right back out! I can only suggest that the park installs a security camera or two at the entrance so that if this happens in the future surveillance footage can at least be reviewed in hopes that stolen property can be identified in the back of a truck and a license plate number can be identified! Personally, I will be bringing my game camera in the future.
Lastly, we paid for 2 nights and were planning on leaving Sunday... after all of the above and having 5 young ladies and 2 woman with us we didn't feel safe and left a day early. I was told the park may call me regarding this and my number was left... HAVEN'T HEARD A WORD FROM THEM! A professional concerned & caring fallow up call would have been appreciated!
