Another great trip! We went last year for New Years Eve and Day and we loved how quiet it was. It was nice to escape the firework noise of our town. Also helps the fur babies not freak out. We were sad to see we were unable to reserve that night this year. Im wondering if the group that was East of us ruined it by setting off fireworks since they are illegal there (we were glad there wasnt a lot though). We liked seeing the presence of several park rangers this trip. We noticed there seems to be the same people living in the campground as last year (maybe they come this time of year). We were sad to hear the lake was closed to boats, due to the invasive mussel, but glad we had done research before bringing our boat again. We saw lots of unfortunate other boaters come in and fish from land or come in and turn right around. Hopefully it opens back up soon. The restrooms were clean and nice hot showers. We will definitely be back again. Hopefully next time with the boat!

Sort of an odd little campground as theres a big boat storage opposite it but the campsite was nice and clean, lots of space, and a GORGEOUS view. There were quite a few rocks but luckily we had an air mattress. Definitely bring a thick sleeping pad or mattress.

The bathrooms/showers were not working at all. The signs said they had no water or electricity, so all we had was port-a-potties. Plus there was an abundance of very tall weeds everywhere. The campground is i dire need of weed abatement.

We camped at Big Oak Campground for two weeks. It was not a pleasant experience. During our stay the bathrooms were totally closed down on several occasions for a few days. It was an April/May stay and the weeds around the campsites were tall, dry and not cut down. I was concerned that smokers or campfires would set the park ablaze. Not cutting the grass earlier in the year especially in this very dry year in California was totally unacceptable . Finally, the maintenance crews did not lower the docks as the water levels changed and got lower. By the last week , half of the dock was out of the water. I would like to commend the bathroom cleaning contractors. When! the bathrooms were open ..... they kept them very clean and stocked. I do wish the Park service could add soap to the bathrooms, especially this year!

Upon arrival, the campsite was clean and there's plenty of parking space for two cars (reserve campsite only). The campsite already has a table and easy access for loading and/or unloading. Amenities like a restroom, a paid shower, and water are all in close proximity to our campsite. We got a nice partial view of the lake with some shade. Within walking distance down to the lake, we caught enough big-mouth bass for a meal on both days. In the early morning I ran a 5K run and oh boy it felt great. Just be really mindful not to disturb other campers' peace and be careful of traffic. Next time, I will test out some of the hiking trails there. Oh yes, we spot some cyclists on our way out of there. Early to mid-spring here at Glory Hole Campground/New Melones Resevoir is the best.
