While leaving and stopping by the dump station, I noticed a camper rinsing their black water tank onto the pad at the dump station, mentioned it to the ranger/hosts, they said it was okay. Never heard of it being okay to dump black tank rinsings onto the pad but that is what they said. Then they said if a camper did not have a hose they could dump directly into the sewer drain, no hose needed. No thank you!Parking spaces are at a premium as all the sites are small. That is okay if you abide by the rules but other campers were parking their vehicle on the side of the campground loop road, which was already tight anyway. Two vehicles max is what is shown but there were times with 4 vehicles and a trailer for the entire stay, nothing was said by the campground hosts that I am aware of. While the scenery on the Blue Ridge Parkway is worth seeing, and the area near the campground has a lot to offer, I would never stay at this campground again.

Staff was very friendly. Great location for hikes with the benefit of the Inn, restaurant and camp/convenience store across the street. High elevation makes it a cooler place in the summer. We were there during a region-wide heat wave at the end of June and nights were comfortable.

The park ranger was most helpful and interrupted her lunch hour to be of service. Of course the fall colors were spectacular

Make sure you have plenty of leveling blocks as sites are not level.

We had a reservation for a site, we had a tent, the site was an RV site, they were very helpful in helping us change sites. There are a big number of FF sites and we saw people get those as late as 6pm on a Friday night, so don’t worry if you’re thinking of coming. I would bring my own firewood next time, the store charges $10/avg size bundles. There is a restaurant and two stores with food and camping accessories within a few minute walk of the campground.
