Great spot to camp at cooler elevation, hiking, lake paddling, and near town

Campground and bathrooms were neat and clean. Rangers there seem to do the best they can with what they have. Like most US campgrounds, this one is in need of some updates. I love our national treasures as do millions of tax paying families. I do not understand why more monies are not allocated to these facilities to make them better. Many thanks to the workers there for trying so hard.

Beautiful campground, meticulously maintained in a wonderful location convenient to several of the most viewed sites along the Parkway.

The first campsite selected online was impossible to back into due to the layout of the opposing occupied site (even with my small, 15 ft. trailer). Fortunately, there was another site available that night.

The people working at the campground reservation and check in booth were extremely helpful and courteous! They are to be commended for their friendly, helpful attitude!

This is National Park campground, and there are no hookups. The "comfort station" was a fair distance, as was water from this campsite. The woods are relatively dense with rhododendrons galore. The trail around the nearby lake needs a lot of work. We did not spend much time in the campground as we were exploring Boone and Ashe County from this base.

We stayed here the last weekend of October and it was very quiet with not many campers. It's the last weekend they are open before closing for the season. I would not like staying here during peak season as the campsites are very close to each other and there is only one bathroom block with 6 showers for a lot of people. The showers were nice and hot with plenty of room inside each cubicle, including toilet and sink. The location is fantastic, being right off the Blueridge Parkway. Very quiet and the staff were efficient and friendly.
