I had to wonder/laugh at another reviewer's complaint that site C09, where we stayed, had "leaves all over the place" and "mold on stuff". Not sure what they expected during an autumn stay at a campground, and I think they mean moss when they said mold. Yes, the tent pad was covered in moss, but personally, I think that cushy moss beats straight pokey gravel for comfort. (The concrete table top and wooden benches were moss-free.) The tent pad itself fit our quite large REI Kingdom 4 (four person tent) tent easily. I have the "garage" attachment that adds to the size, but was easily able to extend that partially off the designated pad with no problem, as the site was mostly level. (I could see that other sites would not have accommodated this set up because of being sloped.) The overall site is nicely backed up onto a hillside with rhododendrons. C11 was directly behind C09 and would have been a bit close-feeling if the camper wasn't spending time at another site instead of his own. We could hear the Parkway a little bit, particularly at night, but certainly much less than in the other loops, so we were happy with that. Me and my partner both slept with earplugs due to the sound carrying between campsites and a couple folks were a bit noisy later into the night. The bathhouse (just toilets/sinks, no showers) was basic but totally fine and it was cleaned daily. Some of the other sites in C loop really did seem on top of each other, so we felt like we got lucky with C09. We bought firewood the first night from the Price Lake boathouse but they sold out the second day we were there. On a tip from the attendant, we were able to purchase wood at the 76 station across from Tweetsie Railroad on HWY 321 on the way to Boone (only 20 minutes away and they had tons). Overall, we were happy with the campground and our site and all the staff and volunteers we encountered, and would gladly stay here again with its proximity to so many great hikes.

All good except for campsite selection. Because we had a child with us in a leg cast, I called and asked for help in selecting a relatively level campsite large enough for two tents. The campsite recommended was very small and steep, not usable for us, so we drove around after we arrived. Two good campsites were closed because of hazardous dead trees. Our only choice was an open campsite (#4, I believe) that had a large long-dead tree right above the tent pad. I requested permission to use the perfectly safe tent pad on site #3, which was officially closed due to a dead limb over the parking space, and was denied because site #3 was officially closed. So we put our tents way at the back of #4, away from the big dead tree. Campsite selection help is inadequate and hazardous dead trees are not being timely removed.
