We had a beautiful campground... it was private (or as private as it gets in a campground like this) and was within about a 5 minute walk from the lake and canoes. There were lots of trees, the bathhouse was perfectly kept up (with hot, running water!), and it was near blowing rock while still being in the middle of nowhere. This campground is about as good as it gets when it comes to car camping. Just note: there is little-to-no verizon cell service at all in the campground (at least where we went, but we were closest to the blue ridge parkway and there wasn't any at the check-in booth either). But that's really a good thing because it allows us to be more in nature :). All in all, it was an amazing experience that almost felt luxurious and for $20 a night I'm sold and will be going back. Just as a small tip: some of the campsites on the A loop were on the lake, so if you can book those you definitely should.
