Two issues bothered us....
1. $2.00/night pet fee. Never had this before at a FS campground. Asked the volunteer why? They had no clue. Very odd. Problem we saw with this policy...other pet owners were not pleased and let their dogs crap everywhere. Two piles in our campsite and another while we walked. I think the $2.00 fee is back firing.
2. Road noise is ridiculous from the highway. Reason...the road is concrete and they cut lines into the pavement which are perpendicular to traffic. Creates a high frequency whine. HORRIBLE does not describe it completely. Not the campgrounds fault but good grief. The good thing...the traffic is none existent at night.
1. The "pull-through" sites at Oreville Campground are actually just wide spots in the road. Besides that, the direction you have to go on said road causes trailers to be facing the road rather than the campsite. This means you're stepping out onto the road, the awning is in danger of being hit by other vehicles and if you want to sit outside, you're basically sitting in the road with NO privacy.
2. For some reason, trailers/RV's aren't allowed to put any water into their tanks from the water hydrants in the campground. It would have been nice to know this in advance so we could have been prepared. (We arrived virtually empty since we'd been traveling for a few days.) The camp host, Carl, who was pretty personable, suggested we go get a 5-gal. bottle and a special pump at Walmart in Rapid City (an hour away) to manually fill our tank. How hard would it have been for rec.gov to let us know?
3. The mosquitos are voracious. Come prepared to spray your entire body in order to even walk to and from your vehicle. I had four bites within the first five minutes of arriving.
