Great location. Not having water hook ups or a place to empty gray water or shower does present a bit of a hassle if you are at the campground for more than a few days.

Great spot, quiet even though it backs to the road. Deer in the morning on the path through the campsite and lots of birds. South Rim visitor center is educational and has a great gift shop and the rangers there are friendly and super informative. The ranger led talks were interesting and the right length for kids. Lori (a Ranger) was wonderful and gave us the perfect hike recommendation. An excellent national park experience.

We had a small trailer site in Loop B which was very close to the road. This was July 8-12 and it was in the 90s every day and our site had almost no shade. There is very little hiking on the south rim, other than a few short 1-2 mile hikes.(unless you want to hike down into the canyon which we didnt) After we did those, the south rim viewpoints and the East Portal, we were done (1.5 days). We went to the Blue Mesa Reservoir with our paddle boards to get cool. Ended up leaving a day early because there just wasnt enough to do (we arent fish people either). 2 nights here was plenty and we did 3. The canyon is cool to see but I dont think Id go back. Prefer more forested campgrounds and varied hiking trails. It was just too hot for open trail hiking!
