What an amazing location. However, the restrooms in the campgrounds were absolutely horrifying, and the entire campground reeked of feces at all times. I'm used to vault toilets when camping, and I have never had an experience near as awful as this was. There is no reason for this. All management needs to do is add water to keep the odor down. I will be back to this park, but I won't camp here again.

The camp ground space needed to have the weeds and grasses cut back to privide more shade and space for campers. Out of the 5 campgrounds that we stayed in this summer, this was the only place that did not live up what was expected.

The campsites are nice and even though they are close together there is separation between the sites and you can't really see your neighbor. The vault toilets are kept very clean and smell free. Water is at a premium, since it has to be shipped in, so make sure your RV has enough water in the tank.

Campground was good, however beware of small or awkward sites depending on what you are camping in. We have a small 14 teardrop and had an issue arranging it on the site and having enough room for our tow vehicle (jeep wrangler). Site 9 would have been better. There were several sites reserved, but no shows, which was disappointing that people didnt update their reservations to make those sites available that would have worked better. Site was fairly private, but main park road was close proximity, so you get some road noise. Proximity to vault toilet was just a few sites down, and wish they depicted location of toilet on campground map. No wood or any camp necessities near by and you need to go into Montrose for anything, so you may want to pick up what you need on the way. Almost no cell service and we had both Verizon and T-Mobile devices. We only spent 1 night, but was able to go to visitor center, drive the south rim, drive down to the Gunnison river area, and catch sunset at sunset point. Overall good experience, but again, the sites were a bit awkward. Beautiful and peaceful park as a whole and amazing views along the south rim drive!

Beautiful Canyon and great campground. This was actually our backup spot. We hoped to camp in the East Portal Campground (first come basis) down in the canyon but after seeing it and seeing how close together the spots are, and the fact you're not really on the river, we stayed at South Rim Campground and liked it. The spots feel pretty private because of the thick foliage. Awesome stargazing when the clouds cleared off.

Great camp host, stopped by to welcome us and answer our questions. The trails were great, black canyon gorgeous, as well as the summer cacti

The South Rim campsite was clean, well maintained, quiet and surrounded with plenty of high bushes for privacy. The overlooks along the South Rim drive were breathtaking and varied. I recommend stopping for as many of those as possible. Oak Flat Loop was a great trail for views from a bit below the canyon rim and a short but significant workout due to it's changes in height; a walking pole or stick may be helpful in one or two areas of this trail. Binoculars may be helpful as well for viewing birds flying above the canyon.

Stayed 4 days and 3 nights at the B campground.

Space is tight, would not recommend anything more than a 15-20 ft trailer or a conversion van.

Had fresh water each day, bathrooms were maintained very well, and the host and Rangers provided the best of help throughout our stay.

Canyon is incredible, do yourself a favor, go see it!

Camping in Black Canyon was perfect for a long Memorial Day Weekend. The rangers were around often doing work in the campgrounds as well as answering questions of campers. They were knowledgeable and I much appreciate them. Bathrooms were clean and were well stocked and the campgrounds were clean and well maintained too. Would definitely recommend camping here!

The Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP campground on the south rim was great. The facilities were clean and the sites were well divided. I would strongly recommend making the effort to check out Warner Point on the south rim. It offers great views of the canyon. The dumpsters are a little bit of a walk (or drive) from the main campground loops, but I would imagine this is done as an additional bear interaction / protection measure.

The camp ground was beautiful and the park was even better. The only thing this camp site didnt offer was secludedness and a bear box. It seems like all the other campgrounds had bear boxes but for some reason this loop had a limited amount. They told us we could use a shared one, but we were traveling with a month worth of stuff and two coolers so that wouldnt exactly work. We ended up putting it in our car and were alright but we would have felt better with a bear box. The campground was very pretty and close enough to the bathrooms that it wasnt a hike. Also there are wild deer that roam around which is pretty cool. Altogether this is a park you need to camp at to get the full experience due to the distance away from town.
