Variety of hiking options for different abilities. We were able to hike to and from visitor center from campground. Accessible viewpoints on driving tour were wonderful views. Hard working rangers were very helpful with questions.

We have a pop up camper and were in site number B006. The sites are much shallower than in the picture and we are first time campers so my husband had a difficult time maneuvering it into the site. We have an SUV which barely fit after the camper was repositioned so I don't know how others with bigger RVs and trucks fit. We had to share a bear locker with the people next to us which was fine. There was a nice picnic table and fire ring positioned under trees so that was fine also. The campground was close to the trail roads and 20 minutes away from the town of Montrose so that was fine also. We had a very good time!

The campground offers privacy between spaces. We didnt use the bathrooms so I cant speak to that. Easy access to rim trail. Nice people all around. No services/ice on the parkbring your own food and youll have a great stay. I recommend one night. Unfortunately it was a full moon so I cant speak to the night sky.

Spent 3 nights at the campground, amazing views and the hike to the river on the Gunnison route is well worth the effort.

Great place. Nice campgrounds. We were there in late September so the crowds were smaller. There is no water to fill water tanks. Just water for drinking.

We reserved the only available electric site left for our stay. The picture shown on the reservation page does not accurately depict site B006 loop B.. The area is overgrown which made the tent pad too small for our tent. The pad was about an 8x10 space but because of the shrubs surrounding it, you may be able to only set a small 4-5 ft. tall tent there. We were forced to set up on the driveway right next to the camp road, in the full July sun. The site also says there are available Bear proof containers to use. As we arrived, we discovered only one double unit setting close to site B005. This one unit was available for the entire loop B (as it is considered an electric loop for hard sided campers.) It was suggested that we just leave our food in our car, which turned out more convienent than always walking to the storage unit. The two pit toliets were across from our site. Very convienent and not too smelly. The area was very clean, void of trash and well patrolled. The trails to the various overlooks were well marked and clean as well. The views were awesome and wonderous!! Not much wildlife was seen other than rabbits, chipmunks and a few birds. We went out on the rim road before dusk each night and only saw one deer. As we were leaving around 8:30 AM there was a deer in the campground loop. In conclusion, the price (with a Senior pass) and the views available, made the small tent area not so important.

Stayed in site B6 with our pop up. B loop is the only loop with power (no water or dump). Our particular site was a bit cramped (others were bigger) but we had lots of wildlife! Sitting quietly brought out: deer, ground squirrels, chipmunks, and at least 5 different types of birds. Bring your own firewood (get it local please!- there is a store at the road entrance that sells firewood) because none is sold at the campground. Each campground had a water station that even included a water bottle filling station. Sign says sometimes its closed since they have to truck in water. Restrooms are decent-for as much as a hole in the ground can be. Sites are surrounded by scrub oak and I think a type of serviceberry. No big pine trees for shade-used our canopy. Excellent area for exploring the Black canyon and surrounding areas. Easy hike from campground to the visitors center (1 mile).

Very peaceful campground. Primitive with only pit toilets and no sinks, but the restrooms are cleaned diligently everyday, and water spigots are available. Black Canyon is rugged and wild; dont expect any luxuries!

The evening ranger program was excellent! A campsite became available, so we grabbed it. But it was quite overgrown and there was no obvious pad area for our tent, so we put it in the parking space. Decent and clean vault facilities, though water is limited.

Absolutely stunning night sky views. The view of the Milky Way was something I can't recall ever seeing before. No issues with other campers or facilities. I would stay here again and would recommend.

Amazing views whether you are at the rim or whether you hike into the canyon like we did. Do the Gunnison wilderness into the canyon trail (only 15 people allowed per day, it is worth the wait in line the day before to get a pass)
