Camp sites are very private. The land is beautiful and enjoyed the lookouts

SUCH a fun time. Please look up at the sky and if you can, try to get a gunnison route permit

Black Canyon of the Gunnison was so amazing, beautiful, and relaxing. It is such an overlooked park in the national park system. Everything from the Lower Canyon to the Top of the South Rim is wow inducing. The park rangers at both the visitor center and the ranger talks were engaging and powerful for our family. We learned so much. The campgrounds were well kept despite the limited facilities. TIP- make sure you buy your wood before taking the road up into the park.

Great campground and amazing park! Noticed all sites do NOT have a tent pad so be sure check campsite photos depending on your gear! We stayed in site B15 and though our 1 person tents fit fine, a lager tent would have had trouble. Dont miss any viewpoints along the South Rim Road and if youre up for it, a hike down to the river via one of the inner canyon routes is highly recommended!

perfectly happy experience. being in the park makes a BIG difference. We had plenty of space for a 30ft trailer and truck. Park staff was very friendly at every turn. Wish we could've stayed longer

Stayed in Loop B with an electric hookup. About half of the sites in B are side-of-the-road pull-off sites, the picnic table and firepit are located behind the pull-off, so if your rig is parked parallel to the road, you'll have privacy. Campsites are separated by low brush and scrub oaks. There are water spigots at the entry to each Loop. No RV fill allowed. Zero internet with Verizon. This was a nice campground in a good location. Ranger presentations at the ampitheater (walking distance) each night. The Black Canyon is amazing. The scenic drive has many overlook pull-offs with views into the canyon gorge. Nice Visitors Center.

Great views and trails! Leveling blocks are needed at most campsites. East Portal road is a very steep switchback road so low gear and good brakes are a must. All of the overlooks are great.

The camp host was extremely helpful and kind. She found a campsite for us on arrival as the one we had booked online happened to be too small for us. She also found one for us on the next day. Thanks to her we had a great stat in the Black Canyon. Please say clearly that NO water to fill the water tank is available in the camp, we had to go all the way back to Montrose to get water.

This site (15B) did not have a tent pad- as was advertised. We were able to change to another site with the campground host's help.

The campgrounds and park are great. Be aware you cant fill your rv fresh water tank here. Which important since there arent showers. The campgrounds have a couple great trails close by that lead to the visitors center. Absolutely gorgeous!

The campground was full but very quiet. I love the dark skies with all the stars visible. Park rangers drove thru the campground 4 to 5 times a day The Black Canyon is incredible. It is so beautiful. The campground was clean and quiet which was perfect for us.

South Rim CampgroundIt was unusual to have electricity (hence DishTV) but no flush toilets, showers or cell service. It was hot so the air conditioner was wonderful. We drove the South Rim Road and took all the hikes to all the viewpoints and the Rim Rock Trail. We also drove down the steep East Portal Road and hiked Primitive Trail along the river and saw where the Gunnison Tunnel diverts water to the valley below.(built in 1909)The ranger-lead Morrow Point Boat Tour was a highlight since we were right in part of the canyon. Another highlight was seeing a cougar cross the road near the park entrance.Day trips to Gunnison and Ouray gave us a change to see the area. Near the Mesa Creek Dam was a refurbished narrow gauge train. Arrow Mountain Lodge, up a gravel road at mile marker 124 on Hwy 50, had wonderful food for lunch, (Smoked Salmon Quesadilla and a Mexican Burger)The moon was full so there were shadows at night. Really nice!

Hard to believe that such a short drive to the top of the hill is such a beautiful place. We had a camp site with electricity which was very nice. The sites had some distance between them so that it didn't feel like your neighbor was in your campsite. Staff was friendly and drove through on a regular basis "checking" things out. We met so many wonderful people from out of state while visiting around our camp site as well as at tourist stops at the Black Canyon. Wonderful place to visit!
