This is a nice place to camp during the cooler months if youre lucky enough to secure a site with ALL the out of State/Country people who usually book all theses type sites months in advance and have no issue bragging that its much cheaper then a commercial campground even if they dont use them. Most have become experts at booking a day or two at one site and then moving to another doing the same thing over & over again. All of the public campgrounds are booked like this throughout the entire Winter months and almost none of these people are actually camping. They are using the campground as an inexpensive place to park their 40+ rolling box that they roll in, crank up a generator and run it almost non stop from 6am to 10pm. Many of the sites at Monument Lake are very close with neighboring site picnic tables right next to a generator exhaust pipe and most of these people have little to no concern for campers who are actually trying to enjoy the camping experience OUTDOORS as most of them sit inside their excessively large camping unit the majority of their time spent at the campground. Dont come here during the Winter expecting an outstanding dark sky experience as there willLikely be tons of lights beaming from these special friends of ours who are dodging the extreme climates of where they came from. If you want to battle the summer heat and the rainy season bring plenty of mosquito repellent and Im sure there will be plenty of sites available but keep in mind you might just have to get use to the constant roar of these generators as the sites DO NOT have electric.

Beautiful campground. Nice hosts. Loved the showers!

Beautiful campground and not a bad site anywhere! Most sites are 0.3 to 0.4 mi walk to showerhouse/bathroom, which is nice for racking up the daily steps. Verizon tower nextdoor, while ugly, makes for great cell service and connectivity with our van's hotspot. Campground hosts are very friendly and do their jobs well. Great price, especially with the Sr Pass. We loved how dark it got at night, with everyong adhering to the "no big outside lights" rule. Bathrooms/Shower house was clean and functional - we got a chuckle out of having to use the provided big squeegie to push the shower water into the drain (no biggie; it's quick - and fun!). Even the vault toilets on the east side of the lake were clean and not too smelly. Our main dissapointment was that apart from walking the campground loop (0.8 mi) there was no walking or biking paths directly from the campground.

Great little campground. To bad that the 2 concrete pads aren't used. Could charge a little more for those 2 sites. Excellent cell service. Watch out for the 2 alligators!

Only stayed for one night and enjoyed every moment. Absolutely beautiful location in a remote setting. Staff there were so welcoming. Sat out at night star gazing. Walked dog around the lake in the morning. We were lucky to have a nice breeze so had no issues with mosquitos at all. Wonderful experience. I would definitely like to visit again.

Camp host Chris and volunteer who does the ground (sorry I am terrible with names) were super helpful, friendly, and accommodating! Grounds are better kept than a golf course!! THANK YOU!!

Great camp ground host. Nice clean bathrooms. Contractor that put the shower floor in did a terrible job with the drainage.

We were greeted by the volunteer host. He was very friendly and helpful. We had no issues with our site which looked out on beautiful Monument Lake. We saw alligators.

I had Site 1 and it was a great site. Really spacious and private. The creek ran behind the site which led to the main river within a short walk. The bathrooms/ showers were not as great. They are old and a bit dirty. The camp host is far removed from the rest of the site so he/she could not hear the generator that was been ran during quite hours.

It was amazing, our first attempt at boondocing!
@JaimeS3971455 · Camped on Jan 17, 2021 at Campsite #25
Very nice "no frills" campground. Some of the sites are really close together and people running their generators during the day can be bothersome. Unlike the description the sites do have campfire/grill rings.
