The campground was beautiful and everyone was very friendly. It was also nice to have cell service there since most of the Evergladed we did not.

Came for the stars as Monument Lake is listed as being in one of the darkest places in the US, it did not disappoint, somewhat close to living in the boonies as a kid. Kind of annoying tho there is a distinct glow off east from Miami. Bugs were not that bad, used spray and wrist bracelets. Very inexpensive campground, but of course there was no electric, water or sewer in the campground. There was a free water intake and sewer dump for campers in one of the nearby campgrounds. The staff was very friendly and volunteered much local information. Saw several alligators, turtles, lots of birds etc. Never saw a snake or bear, but they are supposed to be around in the area. Overall I got what I came for, and may camp there again, but earlier in the year as the weather was starting to get hot.

The road traffic was a bit noisy at times but other than that we enjoyed our time there (one night tent stay on our way to Key Largo)

I stayed in #2. It was lakefront. I had a myriad of ibis, egret and others as a continual backdrop to my view along. I saw daily the1 alligators that live there. Its quiet, relatively small. You can walk around the lake easily and the staff is gracious and knowledgeable. The bathrooms are clean. It is more of a rustic site. If Im in the area, I will definitely choose this place again.

its still a good place to camp but it will never be as easy and reflective of the Gladesmans culture as it used to be and should be. It is more of a N{S preferred targeted visitor than those of us who lived and roamed the Big Cypress before the NPS took over and turned it into more of a Park for the snow birds

Monument Lake was a great place to stay. We came in 1/27/2020 with our 40' motorhome and spent 3 nights there that were very peaceful. It is a perfect spot for a basecamp to explore the area with day trips to east or west coast as well as some Everglades. Hope we can return to stay longer. Just remember there is no power or electric. There are restrooms with potable water available and dump station to use at another site. Wish we had scheduled more time.Charles and Lin Frye
