Nice campsites with access to laundry, showers and camp store. Wi-fi was available near the camp store

So far Big Bend has been the highlight of my cross country trip across the USA, I have really enjoyed my short stay there. We did some of the trails that were recommended but the Santa Elena canyon trail was the one we enjoyed the most, the other ones were also nice specially the Lost Mine trail were the vista where exceptional. We made our reservation a bit late so we were given 3 diffrent sites for our 5 days stay at Rio Grande Village, the first one was perfect and the camping host was very helpful with our set up on the next two sites but I wish we had stayed on the first one which was never occupied by anyone while we were there, all this moving for nothing but that was a small price to pay to be at Big Bend.

Site #39 was nestled into shrubbery with trees overhead creating a lovely retreat on the far edge of the generator free zone perfect for a tent, say a roadrunner in our site. Site #100 was too exposed for enjoyable tenting, but we pulled the car alongside to create a breaksaw javelinas in the green space near site #100. Clean bathroom. Icky moldy dishwashing area, but they were working on cleaning it.

We had a site in the non generator part of the campground. There were a view campers who run their generator within this area. Parkcrew did not concern, sad

Rio Grande Campground is a big bust. For some reason, you cannot have a campfire. Nothing around our camp would have caught fire. What a joke!

We had a great time at Big Bend. We enjoyed great vistas and unique geography on the hike to the hot springs and several other hikes in the area. We joined a fun and well informed group for a bird watching outing. We had just enough civilization available at the store to stay clean and connected while having a nice rustic experience at the campground. And thanks for beautiful November weather!
