Quiet, lots of wild life.

Staying at the Rio Grande Village was a priceless experience for my family and I. We stayed at campsite 11 which was close to the restrooms and the beautiful nature trail. One of our mornings we hiked to the top of the peak near the trail and watched the sunrise and shine on the Chisos mountains. At first I was bummed I was unable to snag us a site in the Chisos, but the ambiance, the kind park rangers, amazing views, and so many other things made me so content and happy that I booked the RGV! 10/10 recommend!

Great place, but overcrowded and poorly maintained with regard to the property itself. All the trees are dying due to lack of irrigation and rain. The beauty of the area is greatly diminished from a few decades ago. Way too many tents allowed on each site, up to 4, and it feels like a ghetto rather than campground. Most campers come for just a few days making it very difficult to make longer term reservations, as it is very popular.

This was our first time camping during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The camp ground was busy. Our camp neighbors parked 5 cars on surrounding lots and even though the camp attendant told them to move the cars. They did not until late that night. The same campers ran a cable to their site from the bathrooms ( major trip hazard) but the camp ground is great. The camp attendants were great, the fact that the park experienced a gas shortage was concerning for many. But I would say this can all be expected during a major holiday weekend. Guests mostly were the problem not the park or employees.

The experience was great. A tangential concern is the number of no-shows. I counted 4 in the adjacent camping spots. Big Bend is too remote to require reservations for all sites. The park should manage sites like the Forest Service does for their remote camping sites. They reserve a number of sites as first-come, first-served. Those don't go unused due to no shows.

Ken and Pat were very helpful as campground hosts. Site 11 definitely has a low branch but we pulled in from the south side and backed out when we left. Lots of foot traffic as the site is next to the bathroom but the campground is pretty quiet. Site 11 is a generator site right on the edge of a no generator area.

Large, open sites with good access to nature trail with excellent views. It is a dark sky park but the lights at the restrooms stay on all night. The squadron of peccaries is fun to watch and there are many birds in camp. Excellent access to the east side park trails and roads.

This is relatively easy RV dry camping experience. The spots are nicely spaced out and some now have shade structures in places without tree shade. The restroom is well-maintained. Generous generator hours for hot days. The dump/fill station worked well. If you like hikes off the beaten path try Pine Canyon and Chimneys. Mariscal mine is well worth the 20 mile dirt road drive. 4x4 are recommended but we saw a couple of SUVs on River Road East in dry weather.

The campground was very nice. Surprising vegetation in the "swamp" just below the campground. Great views from the walking trail.

This place is a must see. South Rim trail is a highlight in this truly awesome setting. I biked Old Ore, Glen Spring, And East River roads on my gravel bike-42mm tires. It was a bit chunky and had some washboard, I'd recommend at least 2" tires. I'll be back with a mountain bike.

close to restroom and nature trail. Use of generator is OK. Clean. Two great camp hosts.
