Roomy sites. Wildlife in camp included horses & roadrunner - short stay but very nice.

I was there in late September early October. It was very hot during the day and late into the night. If you're in an RV I highly recommend you get an electric site. If you're in a tent i'm sorry. The store at the campground does have gas and laundry. Horses and donkeys are frequently seen in the campground. The donkeys have bells on them. They can wake you up at night. There's a trail that goes off the back of one of the campsites. It's a nice little hike.Highly recommend doing it early in the morning. Before it gets too hot.

The park is great. Enjoyed the night sky and quietness every night. The burros and javelinas in camp are fun to see. The end of April starts getting a little warm. Recommend a little earlier in the season. The border crossing is only open on certain days youll have to check with the Rangers.

The wind was really bad when we were there. Not sure if it like that all the time, but the tent pads could not hold stakes and I had to tie our tent to the car, brick column, and picnic table to keep it from blowing away. My friend felt all the gravel through her sleeping pad. The only plus was that the store location was convenient and the bathrooms were well-maintained.

Nice campground, friendly camp hosts, great nature trail with a perfect spot for sunrise/sunset. Coyotes are a bit of a nuisance, but that starry sky can't be beat.

Cars coming, going and circulating all hours of the night. Cant hang outside for 30 seconds without being blinded by headlights. Multiple campsites with loud noises and bright lights. Camp host does nothing there. Main bathroom building was closed off during busiest week of the year. One of the worst campsite experiences.

We stayed in camp site 5 with a 35 foot fifth wheel. Site was level. Restrooms clean. Showers, gasoline & a small store are near by. Would definitely again.

VERY nice campground . Hostess was a little short with me when I asked about our camp number . Internet says 005 . Actual sight says 05 . Sight placard marked 5 . Some large camps use zeros to identify different loops . Everyone not familiar with your setup .

The volunteer rangers are the best group I have seen so far after visiting several state and federal camping facilities.

My wife, two dogs and I were able to stay at the Rio Grande campground in mid January. The stay was excellent, we were new to this area and was pleasantly surprised at the beauty of the park as well as the kindness of the staff of the park.

Well maintained campground, friendly rangers! Definitely keep your food locked up as javelinas like to come out near the Mexican border.

I loved this site. Had every accommodation necessary (picnic table, flat site for tent, a covered area, restroom and utility sink). There are NO SHOWERS AT THIS CAMPGROUND -- you have to schedule one at the little store up the road and I believe you have to pay for it. Also this site has close access to a gas pump at the same store up the road. You will lose phone service pretty much at any point in this campground. There is great phone service availability near the Chisos Visitor Center/lodges BUT losing service and spending a majority of the time on the southeast end of the park made me have a better time since I wasn't checking every phone "ding" constantly. It got extremely cold at night and we could hear the coyotes perfectly (and even saw one right next to our campsite in the morning). For the most part I didn't see too many animals other than coyotes and javelinas. The campground hosts were very friendly and informative. Would definitely stay here again.

Rio Grande Village makes an excellent base for exploring Big Bend. There are several trails near there, the Boquillas crossing into Mexico is close by, and it's only about an hour drive to Chisos Basin. Going across the river to Boquillas del Carmen is a must-do. The Hot Spring Canyon Trail is a good one to start with. It leaves from the Daniels Ranch picnic area just a mile from the campground and is a round trip of 5.8 miles with great views. Campground hosts were friendly and helpful. The store is a fairly well-stocked camp store and they also have both gasoline and propane.

Big Bend rates in the top five of my favorite National Parks. I had no idea Texas had such beautiful and varying landscapes. A 4WD vehicle is very helpful for deep exploring beyond the trails. Be sure to explore outside the park too, mostly to the west along the River Road. We camped at the Rio Grande Village with no hookups. The Chisos Basin is the best place to camp and enjoy the view, however you must make reservations well in advance. We visited in the winter while a freeze storm came through so traffic was low.

The campground is no hookups but don't let that scare you off from camping here. The campsites are well spaced, it is dark sky so you see the most stars, the bathrooms are nice, you are in a valley with beautiful mountains around you for amazing sunsets and sunrises. The hiking is amazing and you can even take a rowboat over to Mexico and back legally and very easily and inexpensive.

The hosts were very friendly. The camp ground was well maintained and the bathroom s were clean. I liked that the showers were in that village however even though it was great to take a shower it was hit and miss howling you waited. There are only three showers in each the male and female restrooms and they didn't all work at one time. All in all I did have a comfortable stay for the full 5 nights.

Nice campground, with trees! Especially enjoyed the easy access to the nature trail which not only enabled wildlife viewing, but had a beautiful 360 degree of the area in and around the east end of the park. Site #5 was not very private, but we could use our generator. The sites that don't allow generators are more private (at least the ones we saw close to the nature trail access).
