Had a great time in our 6 day visit. The donkeys, horses, cows and javelinas wandering through the campgrounds and surrounding areas were not really an issue, other than their poo piles all over. Lots of highlights, including great hikes, sights to view and animals and birds to see. The only real downside was that I never slept through a full night (tent camping) due to car alarms going off various times throughout the night (probably from people arriving throughout the night and absent minding arming their cars without locking doors, then opening a door, or a nocturnal animal bumping it). About every other time, it set off a group of coyotes howling for five minutes or so. It would be helpful if a sign was posted entering the campground to please turn off car alarms overnight.

Great campground with picnic tables, flush toilets, dedicated dish washing sink, some no generator zone and friendly volunteer camp hosts. Lots to do close by; nature hike @ especially great for sunset, trip over to Mexico for lunch & souvenirs, Hotsprings, the canyon. And nice to have wifi and showers at the Village store.

I love it here. Beautiful sunsets over the river. My campsite was surrounded by trees. Great hosts. Loved every minute. Even the hot showers at the store.

The location is great for exploring Boquillas Canyon Trail, the Hot Springs Trail as well as visiting Boquillas del Carmen. The campsite was one of my least favorite for a national park. Most of the sites were very open, but we were lucky to get a site in the scrub. The gnats were very bad at this campsite most likely due to the close location of Boquillas del Carmen and the open boarder which allows horses and cattle to roam freely across the boarder. We did see a lot of wildlife (roadrunner, javelina, turtles, migratory birds) at this site which was a perk. The other redeeming factor is the Rio Grande Village Nature Trail which has great sunsets. It is surreal to watch the sunset in the desert over a river wetland.

Very good campsite/campground! Highly recommend a soak in the nearby hot springs to soothe those muscles that might be aching from a hike the day before. Was also impressed by the amount of wildlife in the campground. We saw coyotes and javalinas, as well as numerous species of birds and even some feral donkeys. Take quarters for the showers; it's $2 for five minutes.Only complaint is that the gnats were absolutely awful, but they were absent in the rest of the park, and I understand that they aren't normally so bad. Still, it might be worth packing bug spray and/or some citronella candles.

A highlight of being at Big Bend was camping at Rio Grande Village and taking the row boat across the river into Mexico for lunch.

Such a great place to set up camp. They have accommodations even for RVs and are dog friendly (leash required). The staff is friendly and work hard to keep the campgrounds clean. Spotted roadrunners, javelinas, many bird species and even a coyote! Plan accordingly. 10/10 recommend.

Excellent campground with all the facilities for a long stay. Easy trails for amazing views. Most of the activities are close to chisos basin (30-40 min drive) so rio grande village is an excellent place to stay away from all the crowd and still access main areas of the park.

The park was gorgeous and temperature was great in April! The wind was a little crazy at night but we had a great trip all in all! Definitely recommend the Santa Elena Canyon Trail and Rio Grande Overlook.

We played musical campsites throughout our stay. There were other campers who did the same. This is due to the online system reservation system. The campground hosts were friendly but did nothing to try and keep us at (1) site.

We got in really late (or early) after driving for more than 24 hours straight from WV. Fortunately, we managed to find a single campsite available when we checked the night before. After we woke up the next morning, we were happy to see the sun shining just across the river in Mexico, a short nature trail nearby, and a place to wash our dishes! I recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay in big bend. It’s only 16 dollars!!!

Great campground inside Big Bend 30 minutes south of the entrance. Small hiking trail on the campground. They have bathrooms and a little store. Stargazing is perfect during a new moon. I want to go back during early May new moon.

We were in a tent in the no generator zone, but our site backed up to the RV zone. We were a bit worried when we pulled in, thinking that the campground would be loud, and that the generators would be running all night. Thankfully, everyone sticks to the curfew of 8 PM for generators to be shut off. The campground was clean, quiet, and we really enjoyed our three nights there, even though we wished we could have had a spot in Chisos Basin, as we came to do lots of hiking. We did drive to Chisos Basin for hiking several days, but also hiked Marufo Vega, which starts just a few miles or so from Rio Grande Village. Fourteen miles in the desert was challenging but it was well worth the effort. The sky is wonderfully dark. What a treat!
