My stay at the Rio Grande Village camp sites was excellent. Spots 16 and 17 are great because they are not in the eye sight of other large RVs, but the bathroom and water source is just around the corner. Additionally, the campsite is within a short walk to the trailhead of the nature walk. There is a nice charcoal BBQ grill at each campsite, so bring BBQ utensils and charcoal. There is, however, no open fire allowed, so depending on when you are camping, bring additional layers of clothes and a warm sleeping bag if camping in the winter.

Good campground. Pitch black skies when we went. Flushing toilets. Pleasant trails. Peaceful Rio Grande.

Our tents-only site was stuck away in a secluded area thick with towering grasses and other brush. While this might be a pleasant situation sometime, with the stifling heat during our stay and the closed-in situation with no air flow, I earned to be in the pleasantly open, grassy area of the main campground.

The Rio Grande Village is a great campground -- the sites & facilities a wee better than those at Chisos Basin. The hiking here is good too but not as good as at the Basin. While the cellular is limited at Chisos Basin it is nearly nonexistent at RGV (just a very modest satellite-based wi-fi network at the camp store). The nature trail leaving from the south end of the campground is really one of the best nature trails I have walked.

This is a totally sufficient, no-frills campground. Our party stayed at sites 16 & 17 in the tent/no generators loop at the back of the campground. The tent sites are small (site 17 just barely fit our 90x120 Stoic Madrone 4-person tent) and dont have an elevated or level tent pad. The mud cracks suggested that the space for the tent has standing water after rain. The covered picnic shelter was a nice feature.

The location is very nice. The short walk to the nature trail is wonderful. Some campsites looked like they did not have much privacy, but ours felt more private. The biggest problem we had with this location was the gnats. Swarms of biting gnats. It was almost unbearable (bug spray doesnt help), and we brought home hundreds of itchy bites with us. Also, the bathrooms were pretty clean, but the showers (located by the store) smelled really bad and only have lukewarm water.

I love this park, 12th year coming. This was my second site on this trip (3 different sites for an 8 night stay this year and 4 different sites for an 8 night stay last year). This site, although reserved and officially not available, was vacant the 2 previous nights of my stay at a different site! I made my reservations almost two months in advance and was lucky to get 4 nights in this site before having to move once again for my last two nights in the Village. The reservation system may work for the government and camp hosts but not for us campers!! I'm sure the government is aware of the problem -- campsites sit empty while people are turned away. At Big Bend that means traveling 80 miles or more from outside the park in order to enjoy a day in the park!! The government wins, the camp hosts win and the campers are left outside the parks. No spontaneous travel, no spending weeks or months on the road expecting to find a campsite in their parks, no traveling across the country without a set time frame made months in advance. IT DOESN'T WORK!!

I left a chair to indicate I had not checked out. It was either stolen or the hosts removed it.

Great amenities, and excellent location to start your day and explore the park. However, we found these campsites to be *very* tightly packed and we found noise to be an issue at times.

Nice, quiet campground, road runners and javelinas in campsite. Gold fronted woodpeackers and more.

Great sites with shelters. Walked to the overlook and the River. Winter weather made me leave Big Bend earlier.

Staying in the campground was very pleasent. The park is a must do experience. Remote camping in Big Bend was outstanding. Hiking the South Rim and seeing the stars at night was perfect.

We stayed in #17, which is a nice shaded spot that is close to the trailhead for the nature walk.

Nice facilities overall. However, it was very loud (generators on, loud campsite neighbors, etc.) until very late at night. If you are looking for solitude, I'd recommend the backcountry campsites.
