The reservation system is very poor. My wife and I are full-timers and do not plan way ahead, as many full-timers do. There are no FF sites available. Also the reserved sites that are not occupied on the first night as well as not occupied for the whole time are not available for others waiting for spaces. We have seen numerous reserved sites not occupied for days, and checking availability yields nothing. Your rules state that unoccupied reserved sites are cancelled and should be available, but this is not the case. This should be enforced to enable others to enjoy the area. You also would be making more revenue by charging the campers who do not cancel or change their reservations and renting the sites to campers waiting for a spot. Please consider the many full-timers out there.

Really good experience there. The sites were plenty big and spaced apart. Brian was a excellent host and went beyond what I expected. This is one of the more attractive parts of the park in our opinions

This was our first time at the Big Bend National Park and we were not sure what to expect. I was car tenting with my 25 year old daughter and I was worried that she would be disappointed. We were both completely overwhelmed by the natural beauty, the hiking trails, and all the kind and interesting people we met along the way - from park staff and volunteers to our campground neighbors and fellow hikers, it was a once in a lifetime experience. We were in the park for 7 days. The park is very large and we learned that the dirt roads were much slower and harder to navigate than what we expected. This was not a problem, but something that must be considered when making plans. We packed plenty of water; that and good footwear are the two crucial items needed on the hiking trails. The Rio Grande campsite was the perfect mixture of comforts (toilets, potable water, and a store) and the wild (javelina, mountains, and stars). The only thing we did not expect were the wind storms. When tenting, you must be prepared for these! It is a very isolated area that must be visited.

The campground is in a state of disrepair. The roads and especially the campsites asphalt is in such poor shape that I would consider this National Park to be an embarrassment to the United States. The read room look like they wer built in the 1960s and never updated.
Think of how international travelers view the US after seeing this mess of a national park campground.

You couldn’t ask for more for 16 bucks! Showers, laundry, camp store (with AT&T cell service from the parking lot).

Campsite was great. Flushable toilets and running water. Great views.

Terrible website and no real person to talk to when real problems need to be resolved or questions need to be asked. The reservation system is a joke and many campsites listed as unavailable or reserved remained empty during our stay.

The best sites were closed for COVID. If you are going to close off 75% of the campground, you could have left the nicer sites as the open section.

We have a 38ft motorhome, so the only loop available in the park was the Rio Grande Village with no hook ups but easy water access and bath house near by. Of course we picked the hottest time of year to visit and were able to run our generator which helped deal with the heat at the lower elevations. The sites were big, but the facilities not well cared for. There was a little gas station and store not far up the road, which was very convenient. The off road trails were scenic, with plenty of interesting views.
Overall a pleasurable visit, but not my favorite National Park.

The heat doesn’t bother me so I loved tent camping at Rio Grande Village in August because it wasn’t crowded at all. On the hottest days, we hiked trails on Mt. Chisos.

This was a nice campground (can't do anything about the heat -- but note, this one is HOT compared to Chisos Mountains site). Grassy area behind campsites allowed for softer camping surface (and big open, grassy spaces might be better for kids to run around?). Great river trail right off of site. Excellent for birders. Bathrooms were fine.
I did find the way they had closed off some sites -- including more shaded ones -- from one whole side of the site due to COVID perplexing. If you're gonna close off some, why not alternating sites so everyone is more spaced out, rather than closing off one whole cluster of site?
The Chisos Mountains campground is definitely nicer, cooler, and closer to more scenery and trails. Rio Grande is sort of far from everything. But it's a pleasant enough campground.
Note: there were loose horses and javelina around.
