Rio Grand Village is my place to camp at Big Bend. Bathrooms are clean, ample space between campsite. The grounds are clean and safe. Plenty of wildlife that walks through.

Rio Grande Village worked out perfectly for us...we had plenty of time the day we arrived to do all that we wanted to at that end of the park. Day 2 we spent the whole day going over to the western side and did several hikes there and Day 3 we went to Los Chisos and enjoyed all of that before coming back to do laundry and showers.

Nice Campground. Be prepared to pitch your tent on the gravel/driveway area of your site due to flooding from irrigation in low/grassy areas.

Great camp ground, but dont book during tree trimming week. Loved the nature trail right at the park. Boquias Canyon and hot springs are close and worth checking out. Good launch point for exploring the eastern part of BB.

Wow. Had we realized how great it would be we would have stayed longer. Go out at night and its as if you can touch the Milky Way!

If you are a birder, plan to stay some of your time at the Rio Grande Village. It’s along the river and there is a trail through a wetland so many birds are in the area. Although the campground is at the far east side, all other parts of the park are not too far. Santa Elena Canyon is only a couple hours drive. The bathrooms were clean. Also, there is a store with showers and laundry just a 10 min. walk or 3 min drive from the campground.

I was expecting more of a close knit “village “ similar to South Rim of Grand Canyon. Campsite was fine and several trailheads nearby. Used shower in store which was fine ( $2 for five minutes). Definitely preferred Chisos mountain campground.

It seems ridiculous to close the south half of the campground for the summer instead of the north section. The spots in the south half have many covered tables and much more shade. When rangers were asked the rationale , the response was "that's the way we've always done it.

I think this practice should be changed.

The campground was very clean and quiet, so where the restrooms and the store area. Everyone there was respectful. Wildlife abundant. All makes it very easy to want to return again and again

Comfortable site, clean bathrooms, and camp hosts were always around. No electricity or fire, but we knew that. Dumping station clean and efficient. Very good recycling station too. The nature hike near site 18 is not to be missed.
