The Basin campground is nice and quiet. The views are great and the night skys are incredible. Restrooms were clean and convenient. It would definitely get 5 stars if there were showers.

Bathroom facilities could use some upgrade...very bad lighting condition and look and feel outdated.

I think 21 is the best tent site. It does get very windy here. The facilities are all kept clean and the volunteers and hosts were wonderful and knowledgeable.

Whenever I visit Big Bend, it is a treat to stay at the campground in mountain basin! It's my home away from home when I visit the park.

Great views of the mountains from campsite! Well kept sites. Campground has small sites with limited parking.

chisos campsite was very cold and very windy, we didn't prepare for that but otherwise the campsite was lovely. recommend going to grapevine hills hike though the drive there is a bit like off roading

Loved our time in Chisos Basin! Just be aware that even if its not raining in the other areas of the park, it might be raining there since its up in the clouds. Honestly, the rain just added to the beautiful views. The clouds formed around the amazing red rock cliffs. We were so surprised by how green it was. Whatever youre expectations, it will exceed them! Pictures dont do this place justice. BIGGEST THING THOUGH: even though it may look like you have a covered picnic table, many of them have holes in the covering. It rained the first two days we were there, and we got drenched because we assumed that our picnic table would be covered completely. I have heard that some camping spots picnic table is completely covered, though. Bummed as well because we werent told the bathroom closest to us was closed for construction so we had to a hike a bit for a bathroom. Bathrooms are pretty cramped, so had to do my morning routine and nighttime routine very quickly. The camp hosts were super helpful and friendly!

This is more about the lodge. Which I know isnt the campground. But, there was a freeze and they shut the road down so we were trapped up there all day freezing. We went to the lodge to escape the cold. They werent very nice to us at the lodge which I found disappointing since we were all stuck up there together. It was recommended that we leave via email and we did but they didnt refund any of my campsite money and I also found that disappointing:

This campsite does not have showers, so I brought a pop-up shower however was told by the host that these were not allowed since the water attracts bears. I wish they had disclosed that on their website as that would have changed my decision to make a reservation here.

This is a beautiful and convenient location. Close to the Window trailhead which is a must. Bathrooms are well equipped. I felt very close to my neighbors but everyone respected quiet hours. The restaurant at the lodge was a welcome sight after 2 days in the back country.

My wife (6 months pregnant) and I were nervous about making the trip out there since it is so far from a large city. We were worried about illegal immigrants and was considering not going for a while. We decided to go since our last camping experience at esienhower state park was a disaster. Someone blared music for 12 hours straight.

We were only able to book 1 night at Chisos Basin Campgroundat site 21 which I think is the best one there. We had our own parking spot, a large tent area and an amazing view. Highly highly recommend #21.
We arrived on Friday morning at 11am so before setting up our Campsite we hiked the window view trail which was a nice walk especially after a long drive from Dallas.
We were very surprised when it got dark, everyone in the camp ground went quiet. It was so nice to see people that had the same mindset as us. We wanted to camp and enjoy nature without noise.
The next day we were planning on hiking lost Mine but the Trailhead parking was full. I wish big bend had a larger parking lot for it or another trail that leads to it. We decided to go back to the Chisos Basin visitor center to go on the South rim trail. We didn't realize that there are multiple trails that lead to the south rim a location 5 miles away one way until we were half way there. We weren't to happy when we had 4 more hours to go. A 3 mile trip turned into a 10 mile treck! BRING A TRAIL MAP! THE TRAILS ARE CONFUSING!!!

We loved our stay and the views from the campsite - particularly the sunrise! Bathrooms were clean, hosts were friendly. No complaints and we'll definitely aim to come back!

Probably the best place to stay at big bend! The views are spectacular and breathtaking. The weather is great in the basin! The facilities are very well kept. The rangers are so helpful, informative, and friendly!

Great time camping at chisos basin. The campsite was the perfect launch point to multiple hikes. Highly recommend hiking the Lost Mine Trail. Only downside to the area is that they don’t have showers.

Chisos Basin is a prime place to camp but be prepared for limited amenities as well as lots of traffic and delays. If you can plan to hike out of the campground, it is highly recommended. Easy access to Window trail as well as the South Rim from this location.
