Beautiful campground with great mountain views. Clean bathrooms with potable water. Generally quiet and dark by 8pm. Full moon and star views were great. Our campsite 021 was slightly elevated and got a little windy at night, but it was surprisingly private and its one of the few sites with a dedicated parking spot.

Site 21 is a larger site with a flat area to set up your tent and shade! Some of the sites are rocky and uneven, but this one is not. Its also on the outer edge of the loop so felt more private but it is across the street from the site host. Many of the sites are close together.

While the campground is basic its worth it for the beauty of the park and easy access to the trails. Definitely heed the length limits on the spots, and that many of the RV spots are not level. We would definitely stay again though.

The Basin campground is nice and quiet. The views are great and the night skys are incredible. Restrooms were clean and convenient. It would definitely get 5 stars if there were showers.

Bathroom facilities could use some upgrade...very bad lighting condition and look and feel outdated.

I think 21 is the best tent site. It does get very windy here. The facilities are all kept clean and the volunteers and hosts were wonderful and knowledgeable.

Whenever I visit Big Bend, it is a treat to stay at the campground in mountain basin! It's my home away from home when I visit the park.

Loved our time in Chisos Basin! Just be aware that even if its not raining in the other areas of the park, it might be raining there since its up in the clouds. Honestly, the rain just added to the beautiful views. The clouds formed around the amazing red rock cliffs. We were so surprised by how green it was. Whatever youre expectations, it will exceed them! Pictures dont do this place justice. BIGGEST THING THOUGH: even though it may look like you have a covered picnic table, many of them have holes in the covering. It rained the first two days we were there, and we got drenched because we assumed that our picnic table would be covered completely. I have heard that some camping spots picnic table is completely covered, though. Bummed as well because we werent told the bathroom closest to us was closed for construction so we had to a hike a bit for a bathroom. Bathrooms are pretty cramped, so had to do my morning routine and nighttime routine very quickly. The camp hosts were super helpful and friendly!

This is more about the lodge. Which I know isnt the campground. But, there was a freeze and they shut the road down so we were trapped up there all day freezing. We went to the lodge to escape the cold. They werent very nice to us at the lodge which I found disappointing since we were all stuck up there together. It was recommended that we leave via email and we did but they didnt refund any of my campsite money and I also found that disappointing:

This campsite does not have showers, so I brought a pop-up shower however was told by the host that these were not allowed since the water attracts bears. I wish they had disclosed that on their website as that would have changed my decision to make a reservation here.

staying at this campground is a MUST to get the full experience of Big Bend National Park! The campsites are stunningly situated in a valley surrounded by beautiful ridges and peaks, with stunning views of sunset and stars as you enjoy your campsite after a full day of exploring what other areas of the park have to offer. The bathroom facilities were adequate and clean for our needs.

Always love going to Big Bend National Park Chisos Basin campground. This year we brought 2 additional members totaling 9 persons. We had 2 campground reserved and it was perfect. Actually saw more animals this time around that the last 4 time we've been. There is a bear that comes into the campground to eat the tree berries. Saw some cubs as well! Try to get a campsite with an overhang, good for the summertime (when we went). Hike in the mornings and late afternoons!
