Chisos Basin camp sites vary greatly. So, if you can go online and view the sites, be sure to do that before making your selection. Some sites have nice shade trees, some have a brick palapa type of structure, some have both, some have none of those. I had made last-minute plans so I had no choice; literally got the last available sites for my dates. Bottom line: It's a large campground so it's not going to be a really private experience during the spring. But everything worked and was well-maintained despite the recent staff cuts (may not have been in effect yet for my stay)

Stunning campground area located centrally in the park. Nice and cool during the day and close to lots of trailheads. Loved this park!

I usually don't like being right next to a bathroom, but it was not an issue at all. The site was spacious, but there is no cover which was a real drawback as the weather was unseasonably warm. It is right across from the entrance to the Window Trail so there's a fair amount of 'foot traffic' passing by during the day. There are no sites right next to it, and only one sort of across the drive so in that respect it's kind of nice. The dumpsters are a ways away on the other side of the campground, but there is recycle next to the bathroom.

Amazing campsite. Right next to the bathroom but private enough to feel slightly isolated. Ok coverage, there were gray foxes that surrounded the campsite when we were cooking but they werent harmful. Expect extreme winds, and use big rocks to set your tent up so it doesnt blow away while on your hike.

This is an especially beautifully situated campground, surrounded on all sides by the Chisos mountains with access to an extensive trail system. It is quiet and the night sky is fabulous. Bathrooms were always spotless. The staff at the visitor center are knowledgeable and friendly.

The campgrounds and trails are very well maintained! Beautiful hikes and scenery. Everything was great except the visitor centers staff. The staff were rude over the phone and acted annoyed that someone would call the desk to ask them questions about that park rather than look it up online. Other than that, the parks rangers were great, all the other staff were friendly and overall a very pleasant experience.

This was an amazing campsite! Very convenient if you plan on hiking in the Chisos Basin. Our site was very beautiful and clean and the host was very kind and came to check in on us once we arrived. The bathrooms were also impressively clean and not far of a walk. 10/10 would/will come back!!

Amazing campground in the middle of the Chisos mountains.Beautiful views.Accessible by vehicle.Well-kept and clean bathrooms and campsites.A charcoal grill and bear-safe food box are provided at each campsite.5-minute drive to my favorite trailhead, Lost Mine trail. 10-minute drive to a gas station, visitor center, and shops. Beautiful sunrises, sunsets, and stargazing at night.

Absolutely wonderful, as usual. We didn’t have a shade structure on our site but being November that was ok, and there were a couple big boulders to climb. Right next to the bathrooms, means a short walk but more foot traffic by the site. The higher numbered sites (48+) are close by the Window Trailhead. Go for 50+ if you want more privacy. Lovely stars before moonrise, a faint Milky Way, and a few shooting stars. The moon herself was brilliant when up.

The park is amazing. Everything outside of our camping experience was fantastic. We saw bears as we hiked the South Rim Trail. Our camping experience, unfortunately was not so great due to bad photos/description on the app incorrectly labeling our site (#48) as an RV site when it really wasn’t. I would double and triple check your spot before reserving. There are pull through sites, but the site we reserved was a tent site blocked off by big boulders (not shown in photos) & according to the camp host, we could supposedly park our camper off to the side of the road on a 20° hill where the car would park for the tent site. There was absolutely no safe way for us to level our camper and not worry that one wrong move would send it rolling down the hill through someone else’s campsite and then into a canyon. We ended up leaving without even staying one night, which was disappointing because we really loved the park otherwise. We’ve camped a lot of places including several other national parks and never run into an issue like this.
