Campsite was very clean when we arrived. Very roomy as we had two tents to set up.Bathrooms were clean and warm. Nice to have a warm bathroom when it gets down to the 30's overnite.Camp hosts were nice and friendly. Neighboring campsites were not too disruptive or noisy.

The park ranger here is on a major power trip.Ended up with an almost $500 ticket for my dog being off his leash, briefly. Twice.I pick up every piece of trash I see on trails, have contributed to state and national parks my entire life and generally try to be a non-nuisance. This guy was none too pleased to chase me off.

Beautiful camp ground up in higher elevations. Love the camp hosts communication from Kim and with other campers. She helped us retrieve one of our pets that got lose going down one of the trails.

Best place to be the time of year despite it being hot as heck everywhere else the basin makes it a little better and at night its tolerable. Host was very friendly. The snack store was not too far away. For raw camping with a full restroom nearby you really could not ask for more. And the land is literally magical!

Wonderful campsite close to all the great hiking that starts at Chisos Basin. There is a small convenience store just up the road if needed for anything.

Great park to explore, the mountains were spectacular. Plenty of hikes for all skill levels and abilities. Fun 4x4 roads to explore, pay attention to the signs, some roads are just plain rough.Chicos Basin Campground was clean and quiet. Campground bathroom needed attention, other bathrooms in the park were spotless. Camp host said a ban on charcoal use was in effect, ok I get it with high winds. The next day winds were normal and a Karen informed me that the ban was still in effect, no signage to let you know. The next day I get a yellow slip and Im told I could be fined for another violation. Signage or better communication would be better than a Karen telling the host.Despite this issue its a great park.

The Chisos Basin is probably the most scenic area of the Park that can be reached on a paved road. The road is smooth but very narrow, and vehicles towing any kind of trailer are a hazard and all vehicles need to drive slowly. The campground is crowded with minimal spacing between campsites, especially compared to the campgrounds at Cottonwood and Rio Grande Village. The terrain is partially responsible for these issues, but it is clear that the infrastructure is inadequate and outdated. It would be ok, and even kind of quaint and retro, if there weren't so many people relative to the size of the area. The VC and store/hotel area more closely resembled an urban mall setting. You can't blame people for wanting to be there. And the renovations and upgrades planned for the area in 2024 or 2025 will certainly help. No one likes the timed entry option or the daily permit system, but something like that would improve visitor experience. We spent 2 nights in the campground. There was microtrash and toilet paper everywhere off to the side of our campsite. We hiked the Window Trail and the Trail up to Emery Peak, and there was an unpleasant amount of toilet paper off to the side of the trail. Most visitors there seemed to be in the less experienced category and were unaware of the LNT philosophy.I suspect that most actual NPS rangers were involved with the SAR mission to find the lost hiker up there, but we saw no rangers and all interactions were with volunteers (who are doing a great job, but visitors really want to interact with real rangers). Some ranger presence on the trails would be great, but was absent during our visit.Dogs were off leash on the trails and in the campground. I totally support the Park Service, but suggest that something needs to be done in the Basin.

It is always nice to get away to Big Bend. This year, the camp hosts in the Basin were super friendly. When they learned that I was going to drive the hardest trail in the park (Black Gap), they said they would check on me the following night to make sure I did not get stuck out there.

Great campsite in Big Basin. The site we got was relatively flat so the tent could go anywhere without any issues for sleeping. Beware of the huisache trees as the spines are sharp, we had one piece the bottom of tent and stud our foot, so just make sure ground is clear. The table and gazebo offer good shade and a great place to eat/cook without needing to bring extra tables for that. No fires are allowed but the beautiful night sky makes up for it. Each site has its own bear box so you dont have to share with other groups. Toilets are clean and flush. Bears are in the area but we saw none during our stay. I liked this campsite the best from the three in Big Bend, its centrally located from all the major sites in the park. Highly recommend it.

Planned to camp for 3 nights but ended up at the lodge the last two nights bc of the snowstorm that hit the park. Despite the snow, we had a wonderful time inside and outdoors.

Good option to stay in the heart of Big Bend. Flush toilets and a camp sink are nice amenities. The campground was a little loud because it was full, but our neighbors were considerate of quiet hours. A trail to the Window View hike leaves from the campground, which we enjoyed.

We stayed 3 nights at the Chisos Basin Lodge late July. It is well located as trailheads start behind the lodge (The Emory peak and South Rim trail). Is is cooler as the Chisos Basin is at about 5,000 feet elevation and we got in the high 80 during the day. Our 3 teenagers (14, 17 and 19) were camping at the Campground (10 minutes walking distance from the lodge) and bears, deers can be seen in the campground. There is a beautiful sight on the Chihuahua desertWe did 2 beautiful hikes : the lost mine trail (5 hours forth and back, 900/1000 feet of positive elevation). The lost line trail leads to the top of a dome from which the view is beautiful on the other side of the Chisos mountains (so on the side of Mexico). The Emory peak is a 6 to 7 hour hike (2,100 feet of positive elevation) and the trail is mainly going through a forest (shade) until a pass (2 to 2,5 hours are needed to reach it). After that there is still an hour needed to reach the top. The trail goes through a burned forest. People need to climb through some rocks in the last minutes to reach the peak, which we did, making our own evaluation of the danger. This hike is probably the most beautiful one in this period of the year as the forest, trees, yuccas, sotols are everywhere. The view from the top is just great. There is nothing but the Chisos Basin restaurant to get the food (good burgers, salads, draft beers) for lunch and dinners. No breakfast could be taken as they had not enough staff. The rangers in the campground were very helpful and friendly (thank you Kim) helping to make bears moving away. There are some volunteers who give very advise before starting the hike early morning (Alan, thanks so much !) already here at 7 a.m !The 3rd day we drove to the Santa Elena canyon where the Rio Grande flows, bordering Mexico. The temperature was above 100 deg that day and we did not stay long. However we crossed the creek and walked up on the trail just to see the end of the St Elena Canyon
