Great location but the site is not level and has no shade from the sun.

Enjoyed it. Try to get a campsite on the outside of the road if possible

Windows hike was very nice. The new fossil exhibit is worth checking out.

We didn't realize we were in a "no generator" spot. Our fault. One thing I would suggest: Grand Canyon has gone to all red lights. This allows human eyes to see the spectacular stars. The park attendant, Mark, was very friendly as he explained the no generator rule to us. When we go to motorcycle races you can walk into anyones' camp. You'll be offered food/drink and you will leave with 4 new friends. I found that the other campers were generally not willing to have a visitor. I know that's not your fault. I was just disappointed.

Prettiest campsite ive ever been to. A little crowded but overall fantastic

You REALLY need to look at the photos of EACH campsite. Some have ZERO space for a tent so be careful!!! Ours had zero shade, and at 100 during the day it was rough, no shade for even chairs. But… you should know this going in. And we did. So we were prepared. But not for the 55kt winds during the 20 min storm! Rangers were GREAT! checked in with everyone as soon as the event was over. We won’t be back- we hate desert camping but REALLY wanted to see Santa Elaina canyon…. Which the road to was closed. Not anyone’s fault but a bummer none the less. I’ll take a lush forest over desert any day LOL!! Good luck and DEFINITELY send some time picking your site, you’ll thank yourself later!!

My site was probably the worst of the bunch because the tent location wasn't really that clear and the next campsite seemed real close. The host/ranger suggested by the dumpster but that didn't seem like the way to go. Very magical place aside from that and I will definitely be going back. A huge plus here is that motor homes and large RVs can't get in, so it's pretty much a tent and maybe short trailer (like a teardrop) kind of place. Fantastic hiking.
Awesome camp ground with great amenities. Having a bath with running water made camping much more comfortable after a long day of hiking. Loved that there were no busy roads near the campsite allowing for a peaceful night of star gazing and nighttime photography. My only complaint would be that the dumpsters were a bit hard to find but honestly, that wasn't a big deal at all. All around, this was a wonderful place to camp.

Loved it. Great access to hikes to The Window, South Rim, Emery Peak and Lost Mines Trails. Beautiful and natural. Dixie was big help at visitor center

The Chisos Basin is an absolute dream. Can't wait to be back!

We had a great three nights at the Chisos Basin Campground! The camp hosts walked around to welcome us. We had a picnic table, bear lockers, a grill, enough room for our tent, and easy access to the bathrooms. This campground has great access to the Window View Trail and Emory Peak area trails, as well as the camp store and lodge. The location is in an incredibly beautiful location and it was so magical to be surrounded by the Chisos Mountains.

I love big Bend and was gonna reserve 5 days at Rio Grande Campsite but everyday I would have to move because sporadic availability . But the deal breaker for me and many campers is this ties up your whole morning especially on short winter days ,when you could go out on a long hike but you have to waste half of you day with the midday check-in and then you no longer have a full day of hiking trails and the afternoon is too short . How can this be remedied?
This campground was the most beautiful the sites were a bit small and close, but we would stay here again. The basin is gorgeous! The bathrooms were clean and functional. The volunteer ranger/hosts were so informative and helpful!
Chisos Basin campground was a great location for amazing hiking adventures. The particular site I had was very small and close to other sites though and provided no shade in the blazing hot sun. Also, the bathrooms while very functional, could have used an additional cleaning throughout the days we were there due to very heavy use.
The setting is beautiful and majestic. Campsites were well equipped and clean though many did not have covered tables or any shading. Campsites were generally small and often crowded one another. Some offered no level ground even for a small tent. Bear proof storage at each site we’re of good size and a big plus considering the risks. Potable water spigots were spread out and shared by groups of campsites. About a quarter of the sites on lower branch were closed due to COVID restrictions. Bathrooms and trash receptacles were clean and serviced daily. Road access to and from the basin was limited and scheduled due to ongoing repairs to pavement and curbing. Check postings on park websites for schedule. I would suffer all the minor inconveniences for a chance to go stay again. Truly a gem in the national park portfolio.
The park was great! There were some issues with road closures during the day, but that was no one's fault and they did a good job of making sure we knew the timing of the closure when we stopped by the visitor center. The bathrooms were clean, as were the bear boxes which free to use. My only complaint was that they were operating at reduced capacity due to COVID, but instead of spacing people out, they just certain sections of campsites. So, for example, sites 1-18 would be packed, but then just a few feet away, sites 19-30 or whatever, were all completely empty. Also, when people did not show up, the empty sites were left to sit. We'd have liked to move to a site with shade or even extend our stay but we couldn't despite knowing there was availability because we were staring at the reserved yet unoccupied spaces. That said, this may be more of an issue with the online reservation system than the park itself. Otherwise, it was great. Trails well marked and maintained, with a variety of skill levels and lengths available. You had to purchase maps, though. Gas stations were located throughout the park which was good because there isn't much around for awhile once you exit the park.

I had no idea there was mountains here so that was awesome to hike! I’ll definitely be back for that. The camp grounds were nice too! Very clean. Awesome experience to say the least.

If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
